The long-awaited anime adaptation of Witch Hat Atelier finally premiered this Spring 2026 season after being delayed from last year due to production challenges. The two-episode premiere proved the wait was worthwhile, establishing it as a top fantasy anime of the year. Both critics and fans are praising the series for its excellent adaptation and beautiful animation created by BUG FILMS. It’s based on the popular seinen manga of the same name by Kamone Shirahama, which has been published in Kodansha’s Morning Two magazine since July 2016.
With the recent release of the anime, Crunchyroll has launched an official companion podcast called Witch Chat. The podcast will provide fans with in-depth discussions after each new episode, offering a breakdown of everything that happens. It began on April 16th, 2026, just after episode 3 aired, and is currently available on YouTube and Spotify, with plans to expand to Apple Podcasts and other podcast platforms. The podcast is hosted by content creator Lena Lemon and Crunchyroll’s Tim Lyu.
Witch Hat Atelier Captivates Fans With Gorgeous Visuals and an Exciting Story

Even after only three episodes, this anime has quickly gained a following thanks to its beautiful animation, which faithfully captures the detailed artwork of the original manga. Adapting a series with such a distinctive style is always a challenge, but this anime succeeds. The story takes place in a magical fantasy world where only those with a natural gift can become witches. Although magic exists in everyday life, very few people actually possess the ability to use it. Coco, a young woman who dreams of becoming a witch, spends her days helping her mother with her dressmaking business, knowing her dream is likely impossible.
She finally gets her chance when she meets Qifrey, a skilled witch who visits her mother’s shop. After accidentally causing trouble, she discovers a long-held secret about witches. Hoping he can help her track down someone using dangerous magic, Qifrey invites her to train at his workshop and learn witchcraft.
The series follows a difficult path as the main character explores the dangerous world of witches. New episodes are available every Monday at 7:00 A.M. PT on Crunchyroll, with both subtitled and dubbed options. While the anime is also streaming on Netflix, it’s currently limited to select Asian countries, and a release date for U.S. viewers hasn’t been announced yet.
