Million Dollar Nannies Tell All: Spoiled Kids, Crazy Demands & More

Forget $10 an hour, because these aren’t your average babysitters.

Freeform’s new reality show, Million Dollar Nannies, gives viewers an inside look at the lives of nannies who work for very wealthy families and their privileged children. The show reveals the realities of caring for kids who have everything they could ever want.

Leah Barrs, a former nanny for the Kardashians, explained to TopMob News that working for high-profile families is very different from working for average ones. She said that with ‘normal,’ middle-class families, the pace is slower and the requests are much more reasonable.

Millionaires and billionaires don’t just expect their staff to manage childcare like playdates and diaper changes – they’re often responsible for much more than that.

Leah explained she always joked she felt like her clients’ kids’ personal assistant. The job involves much more than just entertaining and supervising the children – it also includes managing their travel arrangements, organizing their clothes, and handling everything related to school and activities, from schedules to transportation.

This season’s show follows Leah as she builds a team of top-notch nannies in Ibiza, Spain – a popular vacation destination for wealthy families. They’re determined to show they’re the best childcare service for high-end clients and don’t hold back when planning amazing experiences for the kids in their care.

Leah shared that when funds weren’t a concern, she’d host elaborate summer camps. She’d bring in unique entertainment like graffiti artists and even install a water slide into the pool, simply because she had the resources to create amazing experiences.

Beyond making sure the children are happy, the team is also responsible for everyday tasks like laundry, cleaning, organizing, shopping for groceries, running errands, and even preparing elaborate meals with high-quality ingredients – all while dealing with the kids’ fussy appetites.

And these children of the mega-rich aren’t dining on chicken nuggets and Kraft mac ‘n’ cheese.

Leah’s colleague, Olivia McMahon, mentioned that a young girl she cares for on the show has surprisingly refined taste for food.

Olivia shared with TopMob that when asked about her favorite food, the girl replied ‘caviar.’ Olivia found it surprising – ‘What nine-year-old likes caviar?’ – but explained that, given the child’s upbringing, it made sense. It’s just something she’s used to.

After going through a tough interview, keeping the kitchen filled with high-quality ingredients from around the world is actually quite easy.

I’ve been following these nanny searches, and honestly, the parents are intense! They quiz candidates on everything – from languages to high-end fashion – and have incredibly specific rules about appearance. It’s not just about qualifications; they’re dictating what the nannies wear, even down to nail polish color and whether they can show any cleavage. It’s a lot of pressure for anyone just trying to get the job!

However, not all the requirements are worth the hefty paycheck.

As a professional, I’m very mindful of creating a safe and respectful environment – I’m happy to adjust things like my language, prioritize children’s well-being, and dress appropriately for the job. However, I’m also me! Honestly, if my tattoos are an issue, that tells me we probably wouldn’t be a good fit, and I’d likely look for another family to work with. And asking me to change my nail polish? That’s just a bit too much, personally. I believe in being authentic, and that includes expressing myself respectfully.

As Leah’s co-star Olivia McMahon hinted, one of the young characters she looks after on the show is very particular about her food, only enjoying the best quality items.

Olivia explained to TopMob that if you were to ask her daughter what her favorite food is and she said caviar, it wouldn’t be surprising. ‘It’s not typical for a 9-year-old,’ Olivia said, ‘but given her upbringing and exposure to that lifestyle, it’s perfectly normal for her.’

Dealing with demanding customers is easy compared to the job interview process, Olivia discovered. Parents hiring help can have surprisingly strict rules, like banning red nail polish, requiring modest clothing, expecting fluency in multiple languages, prohibiting swearing, and demanding knowledge of luxury brands.

While some are do-able, others not so much.

Look, as a professional, I’m completely focused on the important stuff – making sure your children are safe and providing a respectful environment. I always maintain professional boundaries with my appearance, but honestly? My tattoos are part of who I am, and if that bothers you, we probably aren’t a good fit. Asking me to change something like my nail polish just feels… excessive. I prioritize safety and respect, but I won’t compromise my personal expression for superficial reasons.

Olivia shared that the most memorable person she ever fired wasn’t let go because of demands for money or gifts – the reason was something completely different.

I used to work for a family where the mother was quite young. She didn’t spend much time with her children, so her son started calling me ‘Mom’ because I was always there, caring for them around the clock.

But, at the end of the day, the perks of the job usually outweigh the negatives.

Olivia explained that not only is travel completely free, but the families you work for cover all expenses – flights, accommodation, and meals. Often, they also provide a salary on top of that. This opportunity allowed her to experience the benefits of private air travel.

Avoiding airport security is just the beginning of Olivia’s perks. In addition to a high salary, she’s also received bonuses like designer clothes and expensive fashion gifts.

I ended up with everything my mom didn’t want,” she explained. “It wasn’t really hand-me-downs – she’d give me things like a Cartier bracelet and say, ‘I already have three, do you want this one?’ Or a Louis Vuitton bag, or Chanel. Of course I said yes!

Get a glimpse into the glamorous lives of Olivia and Leah when Million Dollar Nannies kicks off tonight, June 17th, on Freeform. You can also catch it streaming on Hulu starting June 18th.
