After 16 years, the popular show Adventure Time is switching things up. Created by Pendleton Ward, Adventure Time began as a short on Nicktoons in 2007, and then Cartoon Network picked it up as a full series in 2010. It quickly became known for its creative and exciting adventures.
After that came ten incredible seasons of an animated TV show widely considered one of the best ever made. The series centers on Finn the Human Boy and his shapeshifting dog friend Jake as they go on adventures. Set in the strange and fantastical land of Ooo, they spend their time rescuing princesses, defeating monsters, and helping people in need.
As a huge animation fan, I have to say this show is delightfully weird! It’s got such a unique sense of humor that constantly surprises you, no matter how old you are. It’s become really popular, which is awesome – it’s spawned a whole franchise! We even got Adventure Time: Distant Lands back in 2020, and more recently, in 2023, they released Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, which is basically a gender-swapped take on the original series. It’s fantastic to see them keep expanding the world.
A fourth Adventure Time spinoff, titled Adventure Time: Side Quests, is coming to Hulu and Disney+ on June 29, 2026. The new series will feature Finn and Jake, along with popular characters like Ice King, Marceline, Princess Bubblegum, and BMO.
Unlike a typical prequel or sequel, the new show, Side Quests, will tell original stories within the world of the original series, but won’t directly continue the main plot. There will be some changes, including a new voice actor for Finn – Sasha Knight will be taking over for Jeremy Shada – and a fresh art style. Nate Cash will be the showrunner, replacing the original creator, Pendleton Ward.
The new season of the show is a significant shift, as it’s the first time an Adventure Time series won’t debut on Cartoon Network. While international audiences will still be able to watch it there, this represents a major change for the acclaimed series.
Adventure Time Is Sticking With HBO Max For International Streaming
While you can still watch Adventure Time: Side Quests internationally on Cartoon Network and HBO Max, new episodes won’t be released until October 5, 2026. Throughout its run, Adventure Time was exclusively shown on Cartoon Network or HBO Max. However, Pendleton Ward’s other show, The Midnight Gospel, streamed on Netflix.
HBO Max has been reducing its offerings for children, so it makes sense they would license their show to a network known for kids’ programming. It’s also interesting that both Disney+ and Hulu will be streaming the show at the same time, hinting that Disney wants to combine the content available on its different platforms.
All 10 Seasons Of Adventure Time Are Also Now Available On Disney+ & Hulu
Even though the new series, Side Quests, will premiere on a different streaming platform, you’ll still be able to watch all ten seasons of the original Adventure Time on HBO Max. That includes the four extended episodes of Adventure Time: Distant Lands and both seasons of Fionna and Cake as well.
Whether Adventure Time: Side Quests will come to HBO Max is still uncertain. Given that HBO Max seems to be moving away from content aimed at children, it might not happen. Hopefully, the rest of the Adventure Time series will remain available on the platform for a good while to come.
