For many fans of Japanese role-playing games, Persona 4 Golden boasts one of the most memorable and highly praised English voice acting performances ever seen in the genre.
The game boasts iconic performances that have become strongly associated with its characters. Voice actors like Troy Baker (as Kanji Tatsumi), Yuri Lowenthal (as Yosuke Hanamura), Erin Fitzgerald (as Chie Satonaka), Laura Bailey (as Rise Kujikawa), and Sam Riegel (as the energetic Teddie) have all become well-known for their roles.
None of the original voice actors are returning for Persona 4 Revival. The remake is using a completely new cast, which has disappointed many dedicated fans who loved the original English dub.
Interestingly, the original Japanese voice acting in the game won’t be altered. It seems like nearly all of the same Japanese actors who worked on the first version are coming back for this new release, called Revival.
Just to clarify, we didn’t simply reuse Golden’s existing audio in this remake. Like Persona 3 Reload, Revival includes brand-new dialogue scenes and fully voiced versions of classic social link conversations.
In any case, Atlus has confirmed several members of the new English voice cast:
- Protagonist – Nazeeh Tarsha
- Yosuke Hanamura – Paul Castro Jr.
- Chie Satonaka – Anne Yatco
- Yukiko Amagi – Brianna Knickerbocker
- Marie – Ari Thrash
We haven’t heard much of the new dub yet, only short clips from the reveal trailer and related promotional materials.
I don’t think the quality is an issue at all, but I understand why people are voicing concerns on social media and in Persona communities.
It seems like Atlus might be taking a risk with something already very good. There’s talk online that the original voice actors were ready to return for a remake, but most of this information comes from unconfirmed social media posts.
