Man, the Mortal Kombat universe is packed with seriously strong characters. I mean, these guys regularly fight gods and actually win sometimes! But even within that, some are way more powerful than others. NetherRealm keeps rebooting the series, so power levels are always changing, but a few fighters consistently stand out as the absolute strongest. And then there’s this one being… honestly, if they ever really showed up, it would probably be game over for everyone.
Here are the seven strongest fighters in the history of Mortal Kombat.
7) Shujinko

As a huge Mortal Kombat fan, I’m always amazed by Shujinko! The fact that he can just copy anyone’s fighting style is insane – it lets him adapt and beat pretty much anyone. Though honestly? It’s a little weird he has this power because he was the one who brought Onaga back to life. And let me tell you, Onaga is a total monster; some people even think he deserves the top spot for being nearly impossible to defeat!
Shujinko manages to turn things around and destroy the Kamidogu. This single weakness was all it took to overcome The Dragon King’s seemingly impenetrable defenses, allowing Shujinko to defeat Onaga. Sadly, Shujinko’s human limitations prevent him from becoming even more powerful.
6) Shao Kahn

Shao Kahn has been a major villain in Mortal Kombat for many years. He’s lost fights to heroes like Liu Kang, Raiden, and Kitana, but he’s also won quite a few battles himself.
Shao Kahn actually killed Onaga and stole his throne in Outworld, though he used poison rather than a direct fight. This showed he’s not only powerful but also cunning and deceptive. His ultimate display of power came in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, where he defeated Blaze and became a god. Raiden later reset time in Mortal Kombat (2011), and in the new Mortal Kombat 1 timeline, Shao Kahn isn’t currently at his peak strength, but he could regain his former power.
5) Blaze

You might be curious why I’m listing Blaze despite Shao Kahn seemingly defeating him. The truth is, Shao Kahn didn’t defeat Blaze alone. During Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, it was actually Taven who defeated Blaze. Later on, the game developers at Netherrealm took things in a strange direction.
The storyline in Mortal Kombat (2011) changed what happened previously. Instead of Taven defeating Blaze, Shao Kahn threw Taven aside and killed Blaze himself. It’s not entirely clear if Taven injured Blaze at all, but the new story shows it took two fighters to defeat him. This gives Blaze a small edge over Shao Kahn in terms of strength and accomplishment.
4) Kronika

NetherRealm Studios often revisits and changes its established storylines, sometimes in confusing ways. A good example is Kronika: for years, Mortal Kombat fans believed the Elder Gods were the most powerful beings, but then Kronika arrived and introduced the even more powerful Titans.
Kronika, as the Keeper of Time, has total power over the timeline and can change history at will. However, she can’t eliminate the gods, and this ultimately becomes her downfall – even though she usually wins her battles. Despite this weakness, she’s a formidable opponent and wins most of the time.
3) Shang Tsung

Shang Tsung is hard to place in terms of skill. Liu Kang defeated him pretty easily when they first met. Since then, Shang Tsung has consistently gained power, but that’s more due to his cunning and deception than his actual fighting prowess.
Shang Tsung was one of two characters who defeated and replaced Kronika, becoming a Keeper of Time. But his reign didn’t last, as Liu Kang, the Fire God, defeated him. In the epic battle at the end of Mortal Kombat 1, Shang Tsung, now a Titan, attempted a final stand against Liu Kang, but ultimately failed again.
2) Liu Kang

Liu Kang has always been the central hero of the Mortal Kombat series. Right from the beginning, he’s consistently overcome incredible challenges. In the first four games alone, he defeated iconic villains like Goro, Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn, and Shinnok, solidifying his place as a legendary fighter.
Fans then experienced Mortal Kombat 11, where two versions of Liu Kang combined into one and absorbed Raiden’s godly abilities. This created a powerful Liu Kang who could manipulate both fire and electricity, allowing him to defeat Kronika. This made him incredibly strong, giving him control over time itself. He was even able to defeat Shang Tsung twice, despite Shang Tsung also possessing immense Titan powers, but it still wasn’t enough to make him the ultimate victor.
1) The One Being

The One Being is a legendary figure in Mortal Kombat, more talked about in stories than actually fought or seen. It’s considered the most powerful character ever created for the game, existing since the dawn of time and regularly defeating even the Elder Gods to maintain its power.
So, this unbelievably powerful being, The One Being, basically showed up and started causing trouble. Luckily, a team of Elder Gods managed to take it down, but they couldn’t destroy it completely. Instead, they shattered it into pieces and spread those pieces – called the Kamidogu – across all the realms. It’s not really alive anymore, but its will still messes with the heads of a lot of the big bad guys. I’ve heard stories that if all six realms were ever put back together, The One Being would return, which is why guys like Shao Kahn are always trying to conquer everything – he’s basically being puppeted by this ancient power!
