Craig Fairbrass hinted that the Rise of the Footsoldier movies might not end with the seventh film, but they’ll only make more if they find a compelling story idea.
The actor has portrayed Pat Tate in several films, starting with ‘Rise of the Footsoldier’ in 2007. The series has become one of the longest-running and most popular crime movie franchises in the UK.
The movies are based on the true story of Tate, Tony Tucker, and Craig Rolfe, who were killed in their Range Rover in Rettendon, Essex, in December 1995. This crime became famous as the Essex Boys murders.
Over time, the series has grown to be much more than just a rehash of the original story. It now uses the character of Tate and his criminal connections as inspiration for new, fictionalized adventures.
As LEGEND TV prepares to air the first five ‘Rise of the Footsoldier’ movies, actor Terry Fairbrass told TopMob that the future of the series isn’t certain.
He wasn’t sure if a sequel would ever happen. “It’s impossible to say,” he explained. “There are no certainties in life, and that’s especially true when it comes to making movies.”
He added: “They’re chucking stories around.
As a movie lover, it’s always exciting waiting for a new script to land on my desk. You read it and instantly know if it has the potential to be something truly special – or if it just doesn’t quite click. And honestly, I hope that feeling – that constant possibility – never changes.
I’m really excited for the new ‘Rise of the Footsoldier’ film, ‘Retribution’! It’s fantastic to see Terry Fairbrass back as the lead, and he’s even said this one is going to be bigger and better than any of the previous movies – I can’t wait to see it!
Although the actual person Paul Tate died in 1995, the Footsoldier movies have started to embellish his story, creating fictionalized prequels, side stories, and new plotlines around the known facts. This has allowed actor Craig Fairbrass to continue playing Tate in the films, even though the real man is no longer alive.

According to Fairbrass, all of our work is inspired by real events in people’s lives. We then take those stories and add creative flair – exaggerating details and using dramatic license – to make them more exciting for our audience.
The initial movie detailed Carlton Leach’s involvement with violent football fans, the rave culture, and London’s criminal world, ultimately leading to the deaths of Tate, Tucker, and Rolfe.
I really got into the series as more films came out. They even made ‘The Pat Tate Story,’ which was a prequel showing everything leading up to the first movie. After that, they kept exploring his life and what happened after, digging deeper into who he was and his impact on everyone.
Fairbrass believes the series’ success is thanks to its dedicated fans. He describes it as the most enduring British crime series ever made, highlighting a strong and consistent audience for British gangster movies.
“Without the fans, there are no films,” he said.
