The Onimusha: Way of the Sword demo has received positive feedback overall, but many players found it wasn’t very challenging, even on the hardest settings. Producer Akihito Kadowaki previously stated the full game would be more difficult, and now Game Director Satoru Nihei explains that the demo features enemies from the beginning of the game, which are designed to be easier than those players will encounter later on.
Nihei explained that both the demo and the version players experienced today are still early builds. This means the initial enemies are intentionally easier. However, the demo featured Musashi with a wide range of skills and abilities that won’t be available when the full game launches.
On the subject of the demo build played by the publication in Los Angeles, Nihei also pointed to the fact that steps had been taken to ensure that it would be accessible to those unfamiliar with the franchise as well. Among these steps were indicators over enemy heads about which button to hit. The protagonist, Musashi Miyamoto, was also made stronger in the demo, and equipped with a larger arsenal than he would be in the full game at the same point of the story.
Nihei believes the full version of Onimusha: Way of the Sword will strike a good balance in terms of difficulty. He explained that the game will gradually become more challenging as players progress, with later stages offering tougher obstacles.
We believe players will be happy with the game’s difficulty, especially as they progress. Musashi will gain new abilities over time, and enemies will become increasingly challenging, creating a satisfying experience for fans.
I’ve been loving the Onimusha: Way of the Sword demo! Capcom’s Kadowaki recently mentioned that what we’ve played is really just a small taste of the beginning. He also explained that Musashi had some pretty powerful skills in the demo – the kind you usually unlock much later in the game, so it was cool to get a sneak peek at those!
He promised that enemies, including both bosses and regular Genma, will be more challenging in the complete game, and encouraged players to look forward to it.
Capcom is releasing Onimusha: Way of the Sword on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 25th. They’ve recently shared what kind of performance players can expect on consoles, and what PC specs will be needed to run the game.
