What amplifies the sorrow is the eerie parallel with his late brother, who also fell victim to this same relentless disease.

As a devoted fan, I must say that although Jamie appeared to find tranquility in his impending demise (being prepared due to the loss of hope), the ending of My Oxford Year is deeply saddening for Anna. This is because Jamie significantly influenced her life, and it thwarts their dream of embarking on a Grand European Adventure prior to Jamie’s death.

In addition, the book titled My Oxford Year presented an emotionally intense sequence depicting Anna’s European voyage, during which she envisioned Jamie with her. However, gradually, Jamie’s image started to fade away.

Despite her sadness over Jamie’s passing, Anna chooses to carry on with her planned trip as a means to embody the lessons he taught her about seizing the moment and overcoming fear. This journey also serves as a way for them to realize their mutual dreams. Understandably, she is still grieving, but Anna wants to pay tribute to Jamie’s memory in a unique and personal manner.
