According to the official FAQ, Steam users won’t need the EA App, but they do need an EA account. On the other hand, players using the Epic Games Store will require both the EA App and an EA account, making Steam purchases potentially more appealing.
The EA account might make it easier for players to engage in multiplayer games and possibly carry over their progress across different gaming platforms. Given the troubles that Steam users have experienced with the EA Application previously, this development is likely welcome news.
On October 10th, Battlefield 6 officially releases, with an open beta scheduled from August 9th-10th and August 14th-17th. Although DICE hasn’t disclosed specific details, it is expected to offer the ability to outfit weapons on any class, as well as Closed Weapons, which limit weapon choices according to the designated class.
