A Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller Arcade Unit Just Hit EBay to Tide You Over Until World Tour

I never expected to see a new Crazy Taxi game, especially with GTA 5 being so popular. But Sega is revisiting its classic titles, and a brand-new Crazy Taxi: World Tour is planned for 2027! This will likely spark renewed interest in the older versions, and we might see copies of the original Dreamcast, PS2, and GameCube games – and other editions – selling quickly at stores like GameSpot.

Okay, so if you haven’t grabbed a newer version of Crazy Taxi yet, you might be tempted to look for the older ones. Just be warned, they’re a little pricier than they used to be, and it’s mostly because of Crazy Taxi: World Tour driving up the prices.

But what about the arcade machines?

Is It really worth $2,500.00?

A Crazy Taxi: High Roller arcade game from 2002 is currently for sale on eBay for $2,500. However, it’s in pretty rough condition, which raises the question: why is it so expensive?

Collectibles can still be valuable even if they show signs of wear and tear. While an item’s condition usually determines its worth, a rare item can be desirable despite cosmetic flaws. This is especially true for arcade machines, where the internal electronic components – which are hard to fix – are more important than the cabinet’s appearance. Things like the cabinet itself, artwork, screen borders, lights, and coin mechanisms are generally easier to repair or replace.

The photos show a Crazy Taxi: High Roller arcade game that’s in good condition overall, despite being used frequently. It appears to have had some minor repairs – the gear shift panel seems to be from another machine, as the labels currently say “Low” and “High” when they should say “Forward” and “Reverse.”

The good news is the game appears to be fully functional, even though there’s no video showing it in action. According to the seller, a technician from Sega recently serviced the machine’s internal components and the monitor is in excellent condition.

It’s a Fixer-Upper

The Crazy Taxi: High Roller arcade game uses a Sega Chihiro board, built with technology similar to the original Xbox. This same powerful technology powered many popular arcade games in the early 2000s, like House of the Dead III and OutRun 2. It’s worth noting that the home console version, Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller, actually came out on the Xbox before the arcade game. This is especially interesting because by then, Sega had stopped making its own consoles after discontinuing the Dreamcast, making these games a bit more historically significant.

The Sega Chihiro board inside this arcade machine is the most valuable part, and a fully restored cabinet would likely sell for much more. This Crazy Taxi: High Roller machine needs some repairs and the buyer is responsible for arranging pickup.
