A Fan Favorite Competition Series Is Back After 8 Years (And It’s Adding Something Entirely New)

Fear Factor first appeared in 2001, as reality TV was becoming popular with shows like Survivor and Big Brother. Hosted by Joe Rogan, the show featured contestants completing daring and often disgusting challenges for a chance to win a cash prize. Though the original series ended after six seasons, it was revived a few times, even moving to MTV with Ludacris as host, before ultimately ending again in 2018. Now, the show is back, and while it shares similarities with the original, there are also some significant changes.

The latest version of the popular competition show, Fear Factor, now called Fear Factor: House of Fear, is available to stream on Hulu. It originally airs on Fox on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. Eastern Time, and new episodes become available on Hulu the following day. Hosted by Johnny Knoxville, famous for Jackass, this new version keeps the scary challenges fans love, but adds a social element to the competition.

The New Fear Factor Will Look a Lot Like Big Brother

The original Fear Factor was known for bringing in new contestants each week who competed in teams for a grand prize. The new version, Fear Factor: House of Fear, changes things up by awarding the $200,000 prize to a single winner. But that’s not all – this season will follow 14 contestants throughout the entire competition, and they’ll all be living together in one house.

Having the contestants on ‘House of Fear’ live together will definitely make the already terrifying challenges even more intense. The show already promises extreme stress with obstacles like maggots, electric shocks, and ice baths, but forcing everyone to share a house will likely increase the competition and create even more drama. It’s natural for conflict to arise when you put people in close quarters, and adding a high-stakes competition with a big cash prize is a recipe for explosive moments.

The new season of Fear Factor: House of Fear premieres on Fox on Wednesday, January 14th. You can start streaming it on Hulu the very next day, January 15th.
