A Huge Marvel Star’s Beloved Action Film and Sequel Just Landed on Prime Video (But We Still Want the Third Movie)

Robert Downey Jr. is best known for playing Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a role he’s perfectly embodied since 2008. He’s about to take on a new Marvel challenge, switching from hero to villain as Doctor Doom. Beyond superheroes, Downey has a successful career with acclaimed performances, including an Oscar-winning role in Oppenheimer. But many also adore him for another iconic part – and now, both that movie and its sequel are available to stream on Prime Video.

Both Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows are now streaming on Amazon. These films, directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law as Dr. John Watson, came out in 2009 and 2011. Based on the classic stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, they were popular with both critics and audiences, and fans are still hoping for a third movie, which has been discussed for a while.

Sherlock Holmes is Surprisingly Action Packed (And We Need That Third Movie)

Most people are familiar with Sherlock Holmes, but Robert Downey Jr.’s version in Guy Ritchie’s films offers a slightly different take. While Holmes is famous for his brilliant detective work and vast knowledge, the original stories also depict him as physically capable – a skilled fighter. Downey Jr. excels at portraying this side of Holmes, which helps distinguish these films and fits well with Ritchie’s action-oriented style. It definitely adds an element of excitement and fun to the movies.

For 15 years, fans have been hoping for another fast-paced, exciting installment in the series. A third film was initially announced in 2019 with Dexter Fletcher as director, replacing Guy Ritchie, but progress has been unclear since then. While the movie is still reportedly being developed, there’s no news about when it might be released. Until then, fans will have to enjoy the existing Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows on Prime Video.
