Now that the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has finished, everyone is wondering what’s next. The show is designed to continue, with plenty more stories about Dunk and Egg planned. Knowing how the season ended and what happens in George R.R. Martin’s books gives us a good idea of the direction the series will take. Spoiler alert: The following discusses events from the final episode of Season 1.
The story’s ending focuses on the aftermath of Baelor Targaryen’s death and everyone getting ready to leave after the funeral. Dunk bids farewell to people like Lyonel Baratheon and Raymun Fossoway, politely refusing an invitation from Lyonel to join him at Storm’s End. However, he won’t be parting ways with Egg.
The mischievous young prince has run away from his father again – poor Dunk doesn’t even know! – and plans to travel with the wandering knight across Westeros, starting with a journey to Dorne. This sets the stage for more adventures, and we already have some idea of what’s coming in Season 2.
A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Is Already Renewed For Season 2

HBO showed strong confidence in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms by renewing it for a second season even before the first season aired. The renewal was announced in November 2025, and that decision has proven to be a good one. The show has received excellent reviews – 93% on Rotten Tomatoes – and is attracting a large audience, averaging around 13 million viewers per episode, according to Variety. This makes it one of the most successful new series on HBO Max.
A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Season 2 Release Year

HBO is already planning a second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, with a release currently scheduled for 2027. While a specific month hasn’t been announced, it will likely premiere early in the year, mirroring the successful launch of the first season.
Season two is already being filmed, and a key reason for the fast turnaround is Dexter Sol Ansell, who plays Egg. The show needs to film quickly to prevent the actor from aging significantly, which could create issues similar to those seen with the show Stranger Things. Additionally, the show’s smaller scope allows it to return annually, unlike House of the Dragon, which has taken two-year breaks between seasons.
A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Season 2 Story & The Sworn Sword Synopsis

Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be based on George R.R. Martin’s novella The Sworn Sword. The story picks up about a year and a half after the first season, taking place in the year 211 AC.
Dunk and Egg are serving a knight named Ser Eustace Osgrey at his castle, Standfast, in the Reach when a severe drought causes trouble. A small argument erupts between Osgrey and a neighboring lady, Rohanne Webber, and Dunk is tasked with resolving it.
A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Season 2 Will Have A Mostly New Cast

In addition to Peter Claffey returning as Dunk and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg, Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will feature a completely new cast, following the storyline of the book The Sworn Sword. No other characters reappear in that story, although the show could potentially add scenes with familiar faces like Raymun (Shaun Thomas) or Maekar (Sam Spruell).
I’m really excited about the potential casting for this film! While nothing’s been officially confirmed regarding new actors, I’ve heard whispers that Lucy Boynton, who was fantastic in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ might be taking on the role of Rohanne Webber. It’s just a rumor for now, but I’d be thrilled if it turns out to be true!
How Many Seasons Of A Knight Of The Seven Will There Be?

It looks highly likely that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will have at least three seasons. HBO has already planned to adapt all three published Dunk and Egg novellas, and while Season 3 isn’t confirmed yet, that seems to be the bare minimum – the show could potentially go on for much longer.
George R.R. Martin has enough material for twelve short stories, and the show’s creator, Ira Parker, would gladly make twelve to fifteen seasons of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms using Martin’s plans, if HBO allowed it. While that’s a very large undertaking – the show would need significant time jumps to cover the character Egg’s entire life – the success of the first season suggests it’s a possibility.
All six episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are available to stream now on HBO Max.
