A Nearly-Forgotten DCEU Movie Is About To Splash Onto Streaming

It’s hard to find anything positive to say about most of the older DC movies. Many consider 2023’s The Flash to be particularly bad. However, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is trying to prove that it wasn’t as terrible as people remember.

The November release schedule is out, and it includes Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The film will be available on Netflix starting November 17, 2025, two years after its initial release in theaters, which received mixed reactions from both viewers and critics.

Everyone is talking about James Gunn’s plans to revitalize DC Studios, with the upcoming Superman movie in summer 2025 leading the way. But it wasn’t long ago that DC didn’t have a clear universe at all. The previous iteration, known as the DCEU, was inconsistent, with films either being big successes or clear failures – rarely anything in between.

Wow, the reactions to Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom were all over the place! Critics weren’t impressed, giving it only a 33% score on Rotten Tomatoes. But honestly, fans seemed to really enjoy it – we pushed the audience score way up to 79% on the site! Still, it didn’t do great at the box office, making only $124 million domestically, which is a big disappointment for a superhero movie. It’s a huge drop from the first Aquaman film in 2018, which was a massive hit, earning $335 million domestically and over $1.15 billion worldwide!

Despite receiving a lot of criticism, The Flash actually performed better than Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom on Rotten Tomatoes. This highlights that audiences should form their own opinions by watching the films themselves, as those involved with The Flash continue to defend it.

Aquaman 2 … A Fish Out of Water?

Directed by James Wan and written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom follows Jason Momoa as Aquaman (Arthur Curry) in his ongoing role for the DC Universe. He must protect Atlantis from his formidable enemy, Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), who seeks revenge for his father’s death. Black Manta obtains a powerful, dangerous artifact – the Black Trident – and a devastating conflict begins.

In Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom, Arthur Curry must rescue his half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson, known from The Conjuring) after orchestrating his imprisonment following their previous fight. The movie is full of surprises, and even repeat viewers will likely enjoy another watch. Despite the challenges faced by the DC Universe films overall, this installment stands out as a genuinely fun and entertaining experience, and it’s now available for streaming to Netflix subscribers globally.
