Despite its over-the-top violence and darkly humorous moments, the core of The Boys is a surprisingly grounded look at what a world with superpowers might actually be like. The show’s cynical take on society and capitalism works so well because it strives for realism. Ultimately, The Boys suggests that our world isn’t so different – it just happens to have superheroes.

To make the show more grounded, The Boys toned down some of the more extreme elements from the original comics. For example, the alien character Jack from Jupiter was replaced with Translucent, who can alter his skin. The team’s flying headquarters was also changed to a regular skyscraper. Generally, the powers gained from Compound V affect a person’s body or biology, rather than manipulating the world around them.

It’s not so much that she sees the future, I think, but that she’s unbelievably perceptive – almost like a combination of Sister Sage’s brilliant mind and Tek Knight’s sharp senses. It’s like her brain is constantly picking up on the smallest clues – little details in what she sees and hears – and then quickly figuring out what’s most likely to happen. Her ‘visions’ aren’t predictions, but rather incredibly accurate assessments based on subconscious processing – it’s really amazing when you think about it!
