‘A Significant Visual Boost’: Assassin’s Creed Shadows Will Soon Support PSSR 2 on PS5 Pro

If you were lucky enough to snag a PS5 Pro (especially before the price went up!), you’ll be happy to know another big game will soon take advantage of its improved PSSR technology.

Most people call it PSSR 2, and it’s Sony’s improved AI upscaling technology for the PS5 Pro. It significantly boosts image quality, making it comparable to similar features available on PCs.

In a recent post on the PlayStation Blog, Ubisoft’s Nicolas Lopez revealed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which already looks fantastic, will take advantage of the latest technological advancements.

Alongside the next game update, support for PSSR 2 is being implemented on 7th April 2026.

Lopez details how the update enhances the game, starting with overall improvements to image quality in every visual setting.

The improvements apply to all three PS5 Pro modes – Performance, Balanced, and Quality – each of which uses different internal resolutions and dynamic scaling. The new PSSR technology helps each mode look better, meaning you don’t have to sacrifice performance for image quality. No matter if you prioritize smoother gameplay or a crisper picture, the final image will be noticeably sharper and more stable than on previous models.

He also notes that PSSR 2 handles detailed elements like thick plants and intricate visual effects exceptionally well. The comparison below clearly demonstrates a noticeable improvement in the quality of things like grass.

According to Lopez, adding the improved PSSR to Assassin’s Creed Shadows was surprisingly easy – the code needed very few changes, and they were almost the same as when PSSR was first added. Despite the minimal effort, the upgrade significantly improves the game’s image quality, which is a rare and welcome result.
