A Snapdragon X Elite mini-PC is on the way, but it’s not from Qualcomm

What you need to know

  • A leak shows a Snapdragon X Elite-powered mini-PC from Geekom.
  • The body of that mini-PC looks very similar to that of the Geekom A8/A7, which received high marks from reviewers for design.
  • There is no word on when the new Geekom mini-PC will launch or how much it will cost.
  • Qualcomm canceled its Snapdragon X Elite devkit just before launch, so the new Geekom mini-PC would be the first mini-PC with a Snapdragon X Elite.

As a tech enthusiast who has spent countless hours poring over the latest gadgets and innovations, I can hardly contain my excitement about this upcoming Geekom mini-PC powered by Snapdragon X Elite. With a design reminiscent of the highly acclaimed Geekom A8/A7, it’s clear that the company is aiming to deliver a product that combines style and substance.

Looks like a compact PC running on the Snapdragon X Elite processor might be coming soon, as suggested by the latest leak from 孤城Hardware featuring a mini-PC from Geekom. Officially, no details have been disclosed yet, but the hints are strong enough to make some well-informed speculations.

The small computer shares a striking resemblance to both the Geekom A8 and A7 models, leading me to speculate that it might be advertised as an offshoot of either one. However, the manufacturer could simply have drawn inspiration from one of their popular designs and given the new mini-PC an entirely distinct name. Notably, the Geekom A8 and A7 were praised for their “elegant design with aluminum chassis” in our review, so if the latest Snapdragon X Elite-powered mini-PC follows suit, it’s a promising sign.

Due to the fact that the information comes from an unofficial image leak, we don’t have extensive details about the upcoming Geekom mini-PC. However, the image suggests that this mini-PC will be the world’s first to be powered by Qualcomm, which is mostly accurate, considering Qualcomm had planned to launch its Snapdragon X Elite devkit, but unfortunately, they had to cancel it just before the PCs were due for release. While some individuals received a Snapdragon X Elite devkit and were allowed to keep any devices they received, it’s important to note that the Qualcomm-powered mini-PC as initially planned never actually launched.

Despite the Snapdragon X Elite devkit being on store shelves currently, Geekom could still be considered the world’s pioneer in certain aspects. The leaked photo suggests that the Geekom device is a consumer-ready PC, whereas the Snapdragon X Elite devkit is designed for developers. Given Geekom’s reputation for producing top-tier mini-PCs, I have high expectations that their new mini-PC will effectively showcase the capabilities of the Snapdragon X Elite.

Are Copilot+ PCs only laptops?

A few aspects regarding the recently introduced Geekom mini-PC still need clarification: its cost, specifications, and release date. Moreover, I’m curious if it will officially join the Copilot+ PC lineup. At present, top-tier Copilot+ PCs consist mainly of laptops or convertible 2-in-1 devices such as the Surface Pro 11. It would certainly be appealing to expand that list with a mini-PC option.

On Copilot+ computers, you’ll find unique capabilities like Auto Super Resolution and sophisticated Windows Studio Effects. The upcoming feature, Windows Recall, is also slated for integration with Copilot+ PCs. Being equipped with an NPU, these computers are capable of enabling AI functionalities within third-party applications. Various creative apps leverage the efficiency and power of dedicated NPUs.

The Copilot+ PC launch was rocky, but things have gotten better. Now, we’ll have to see if companies hop on board with new devices.
