‘A Transformed Game’: Silent Hill F the Highlight of PS5 Pro’s Upgrade

Once you’ve updated your PS5 Pro with the latest firmware, Silent Hill F appears to be the best game to showcase the new PSSR upgrade.

Digital Foundry’s latest technical analysis says Konami has completely overhauled the PSSR feature, turning it into a success after initial problems with its release.

The website initially described the previous version as a very poor implementation of PSSR, but after recent improvements, all the visual problems and bugs in Unreal Engine 5 have been resolved. The distracting flickering of the RTGI effect is gone, plants and leaves now look clear and consistent, and textures, characters, and environments appear sharper and more detailed without appearing artificially enhanced. The grainy, film-like noise previously seen with PSSR has also been eliminated, resulting in a stable image quality comparable to the best upscaling technologies.

Digital Foundry found that the game went from highlighting the problems with the original technology to actually demonstrating the improvements the updated version offers.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is showcasing the benefits of enhanced PSSR technology. The game has been visually refined, with clearer details, less jaggedness during movement and when still, and more realistic plants. After a recent update, the PS5 Pro now delivers a smooth 60 frames per second with noticeably improved graphics.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has some subtle improvements, like clearer visuals and more detailed plants. Monster Hunter Wilds will feature smoother graphics with less jagged edges and more realistic reflections.
