Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, has returned to the Marvel Universe and taken on a new role: law professor at a well-respected university. This isn’t unusual for Marvel comics, where many heroes and villains have held teaching positions, both publicly and while operating as vigilantes. These secret identities and everyday lives are often crucial to Marvel storylines, and having a job like teaching adds depth and importance to these characters.
Here is a look at the superheroes who were the best teachers in Marvel Comics.
7) Matt Murdock

Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil, has a new job in the Marvel universe: he’s now a law professor. In a new comic by Stephanie Phillips and Lee Garbett, Matt returns to his old neighborhood, Hell’s Kitchen, to teach contract law at a university. It seems his students aren’t particularly engaged, though.
From the start, Matt establishes himself as a different kind of teacher. He discourages technology use in the classroom but proposes a deal with his students, framing it as a contract. This approach looks set to drive future storylines, particularly as it’s already created conflict with a colleague who teaches professional ethics. This setup feels very relevant and fitting for a Daredevil story in the modern day.
6) Taskmaster

Taskmaster is a unique character. While he’s usually portrayed as a villain, he’s also acted as an antihero at times. Notably, he’s trained mercenaries in combat, working with organizations like the Red Room and SHIELD. He wasn’t a traditional teacher, but he did provide specialized instruction and skills training.
He’s trained a wide range of individuals, from notorious villains like Crossbones and Diamondback to celebrated heroes such as Spider-Woman and U.S. Agent. He also served as an instructor for the U.S. government’s Initiative program, helping to train registered heroes who patrolled different states.
5) Hank Pym

Hank Pym is a long-standing figure in Marvel Comics, originally appearing as one of the very first superheroes, Ant-Man, and a key member of the Avengers. However, he experienced a significant and difficult fall from grace, suffering a mental breakdown and engaging in abusive behavior towards his wife, which led to his arrest and court martial. Over time, he worked to rebuild his life and reputation.
After recovering, he started teaching the next group of heroes at the Avengers Academy. But the program wasn’t entirely honest – the Avengers had recruited some of Norman Osborn’s former supervillains through the Initiative and were secretly training them to monitor and control them. Hank Pym led the Academy, working hard to both teach and train these young heroes.
4) Doctor Voodoo

Doctor Voodoo and Hank Pym share a similar role as educators. While Hank Pym taught young Avengers at Avengers Academy, Doctor Voodoo taught students at Strange Academy, training them in the mystic arts. Both were hired by a powerful mentor – Doctor Strange in Voodoo’s case – to lead these schools with a specific goal: to provide a good education without making the students too powerful.
Every student at Strange Academy had the potential to become incredibly powerful, and Doctor Strange worried about what would happen if any of them turned evil. He hoped to keep them weak enough to defeat if necessary. Unfortunately, the students discovered his plan, which nearly led to another invasion of Earth by Dormammu. Despite this, Voodoo proved to be a far more ethical teacher than Strange during their time at the school.
3) Emma Frost

Emma Frost initially believed she was the most qualified to train young mutants and help them master their abilities. However, a tragic event – the death of all her students, the Hellions – proved her wrong. This experience taught her the value of Professor X’s methods and marked the beginning of her path to redemption.
Emma transitioned to teaching at the Xavier Institute, where she became a highly respected professor and mentor. While she can be stubborn and sometimes uses students to further her own plans, she’s exceptionally good at helping young mutants develop their abilities when focused on their best interests.
2) Professor X

Professor Xavier’s methods as a teacher are questionable. While he educated young mutants and helped them develop their abilities, it often felt like he was primarily training them for combat, putting them in danger to advance his own agenda. He essentially used education as a means to build a team of fighters.
Xavier could be incredibly stubborn, much like Emma Frost, and often treated even those who cared for him, such as Wolverine, as if they were his subordinates. Despite this, the Xavier Institute, founded by Professor X, was the best place for mutants to find safety and get the education they needed to build a future.
1) Peter Parker

Peter Parker, better known as Spider-Man, first appeared in Marvel Comics as a teenager. After gaining his powers from a radioactive spider, readers followed him as he excelled in high school and then navigated college. Eventually, he grew into an adult and even worked as a high school science teacher.
Peter went back to his old high school and became a science and physics teacher at Midtown High. This gave him a chance to make a real difference, guiding and inspiring teenagers to pursue their ambitions – dreams he once had himself, but couldn’t fully reach due to his life as Spider-Man. In the Marvel Universe, Peter Parker was uniquely suited to be a teacher.
