PlayStation Plus members on PS5 have about 24 hours to get a high-quality EA game that usually costs $70 for free from the PlayStation Store. If you claim it before the deadline, you can keep the game forever in your library, as long as you have an active PlayStation Plus subscription. Any level of PS Plus – Essential, Extra, or Premium – will work.
PlayStation Plus members can get Need for Speed Unbound for free between now and February 3rd. Released on December 22nd, this is the 25th game in the long-running Need for Speed series, which began in 1994. It’s a special release because it’s the first Need for Speed game developed by Criterion Games since 2013, when the series was temporarily handed over to Ghost Games. As of today, it remains the newest game in the series, even though it came out four years ago.
Middle-of-the-Road Need for Speed Game
Similar to recent Need for Speed titles, Need for Speed Unbound didn’t quite recapture the magic of the older games in the series. This likely means the franchise won’t regain its former popularity, especially since racing games, aside from the Forza Horizon series, aren’t as widely played as they once were. However, Need for Speed Unbound was still reasonably well-received – the PS5 version currently has a score of 77 on Metacritic.
Players on PS5 don’t seem to be enjoying the game as much, giving it an average rating of 2.95 out of 5 stars after over 36,000 reviews on the PlayStation Store. However, it’s typical for game scores to go down when they’re offered for free on PlayStation Plus, as more people try them without having initially been interested. If you don’t already like the series, or aren’t a fan of racing games in general, this probably won’t change your mind. On the bright side, PlayStation Plus subscribers will get four free games this week, which is one more than usual for February.
