About Fishing Is an Angling Game with an Awesome Retro Aesthetic

I’m really excited about this new fishing game, About Fishing! The creator, The Water Museum, says it’s heavily inspired by classics like Shenmue and SEGA Bass Fishing, and honestly, I totally get that vibe. It’s giving me some serious Dreamcast nostalgia, and that’s a good thing!

The trailer begins with a cheerful scene: two blocky characters enjoying curly fries by a foggy lake. However, the peaceful mood quickly shifts to something unsettling.

The PS Store page for the game says “every cast is a chance to uncover something unexpected”

It adds:

The fish you catch aren’t just a reward – they lead you towards uncovering a lost secret hidden underwater. You can enjoy the peacefulness of fishing, or use what you catch to follow the trail of clues.

The trailer doesn’t make it obvious, but the game appears to have a dynamic world where characters react to the time of day and live their lives independently.

The blurb continues:

Everyone you encounter has their own unique experiences and simple pleasures. As you get to know them, their stories become part of your own, and a place starts to feel more and more like home.

We find this really interesting! It clearly draws inspiration from games like Shenmue and SEGA Bass Fishing, but also shares similarities with series like Forbidden Siren and Silent Hill.

There’s no release date attached to the project, but you can wishlist it now.
