Absolute Superman Reveals a Major Artifact (And It Has Horrible Implications)

On the planet New Genesis, the divine entities known as The New Gods possess technological artifacts called Mother Boxes. These machines, imbued with life, are linked to the Source, a being akin to a god in DC lore. They’re capable of extraordinary feats, from exhibiting near-omniscient knowledge to creating portals known as Boom Tubes for travel. However, while Mother Boxes derive their energy from the universe’s core light, there is an opposing force: Father Boxes. These devices resemble Mother Boxes but originate from Apokolips and are designed to corrupt users, amplifying their negative emotions and channeling the power of Anti-Life. Recently, Earth has encountered a Father Box, and the potential consequences are chilling, as Absolute Superman now holds this ominous artifact.

Superman Is Stuck with the Omega Men

In the ninth issue of “Absolute Superman,” the story continues directly from where it ended in issue eight. The Omega Men have transported Superman to their base, aiming to remove the Kryptonite bullets embedded within him. Despite the Kryptonite draining his strength, Superman’s resilient body proves too tough for the Omega Men to extract the bullets easily. They attempt to dislodge one, but in the process, Superman inadvertently damages the room. The remaining two bullets are lodged near his ribs and lungs, making it impossible for the Omega Men to reach them. With no other choice, Superman must remove the bullets himself, using his X-ray vision as a guide. He manages to extract one bullet but is left too weak to pull out the remaining one. Recognizing that Superman is deteriorating, Primus unveils the Omega Men’s hidden weapon – the Father Box. The box emits a low ping, and removes the bullet from his chest. However, the Father Box doesn’t stop there; it also heals Superman, restoring his strength and saving his life.

The mysterious device called Father Box communicates with Superman through vivid images of a fiery Earth filled with countless suffering people. It predicts that this is Earth’s destiny, and Superman is determined to prevent it. He has allies in his struggle against Lazarus Corporation, but the Omega Men, although willing to fight until they die for their cause, push him towards violent revolution, which he strongly opposes. When he witnesses the Omega Men executing defeated Peacekeepers, he realizes they are turning him into a ruthless killer and fears becoming an instrument of vengeance. He wants to escape this influence but can’t because Jimmy Olsen, his only friend on Earth, is being held captive by Lazarus, and only Superman can rescue Jimmy from Lois Lane. The situation becomes even more complicated when it appears that the Omega Men are also influenced by the Father Box, which means things will likely get worse.

Darkseid Is Controlling the Omega Men

Primus, head of the Omega Men, believes the Father Box originates from a divine source. However, this deity isn’t who people generally think it is. If Primus has heard any voice from the Father Box, it was Darkseid, the God of Evil, speaking to her. Darkseid has fused himself with the core of the universe itself and plans to utilize the box to create his own malevolent team of superheroes to dominate our universe. It seems he’s making progress, and the Omega Men are playing a significant role in this. Darkseid isn’t just extinguishing hope; he’s offering false escape routes to those struggling for a better future. Essentially, he’s creating evil and instructing them on how to fight it, but his methods will lead them down a path of corruption, turning them into monstrous beings like their enemies.

The symbol Omega stands for Darkseid’s power in the universe called Absolute. Although the Omega Men are heroes in their world, they unwittingly serve Darkseid here. They are trying to persuade humanity that this is the only way to fight and are also attempting to convince Superman of the same idea. Their goal seems to be transforming Superman from a beacon of hope into a symbol of war. Essentially, they aim to make Superman, who is strong both inside and out, a warrior instead. This could very well be part of Darkseid’s scheme, and it appears to be taking its toll on Superman as he grapples with maintaining his moral compass amidst the death and gloom. Even without considering Darkseid’s plan, the Father Box is dangerous and the Omega Men have been listening to it. The situation looks grim for Absolute Superman, and it seems like things can only get worse from here.
