Over the last ten years, Bungo Stray Dogs has become a highly praised action series with supernatural elements. The story began as a manga in 2012, created by Kafka Asagiri and Sango Harukawa, and published in Young Ace magazine. In 2016, Studio Bones adapted the manga into an anime, which gradually gained popularity worldwide. The anime has five seasons so far, and fans are still waiting for news about a sixth. While fans waited nearly three years for a new anime season, the manga continued the exciting story, ramping up the intensity, tragedies, and action.
The latest chapter of the manga, Chapter 129, has surprised fans with the announcement that the first part of the story is coming to an end. Chapter 130 will conclude this first arc, and is planned for release on March 4th, 2026. The news, which was shared and confirmed by well-known manga sources like @MangaMoguraRE and @nineofscans, quickly spread online. Fans have been discussing the unexpected ending to this first part, which has been running for nearly 14 years. Previously, readers weren’t aware the story would be divided into multiple parts.
What Is Bungo Stray Dogs About?

The story centers around Atsushi Nakajima, an 18-year-old orphan recently kicked out of his orphanage for reasons he doesn’t understand. Homeless and starving, he attempts to steal money to survive, but instead ends up rescuing a man named Osamu Dazai, who was trying to drown himself. Atsushi soon meets Dazai’s partner, Doppo Kunikida, and discovers they work for a special Detective Agency filled with people who have extraordinary abilities. Their current case involves tracking down a weretiger, and Atsushi unexpectedly finds himself connected to it.
Atsushi joins the Armed Detective Agency and starts a new life after years of feeling like an outsider. He discovers his purpose protecting Yokohama from individuals with dangerous supernatural abilities. The series follows his journey as he finds acceptance and camaraderie with his unusual coworkers. While the most recent season ended in 2023 on a suspenseful note, hinting at more to come, the animation studio Bones hasn’t yet announced whether the anime will continue.
The anime series finished adapting the manga during its fifth season, meaning there was no more source material available for future seasons. You can currently watch all seasons of the anime on Crunchyroll. The manga currently consists of 27 English-translated volumes, with the 28th volume set to be released in Japan on March 26, 2026. An English release date for volume 28 hasn’t been announced yet.
