I’m so excited! One of my favorite Game Boy Color games, originally released way back in 2000, is officially coming back later this year! It’s been awesome seeing a lot of classic Game Boy games getting a second life recently – some are being completely remade for newer systems, and others, like Mina the Hollower, are trying to capture that same retro feel. But honestly, I never expected this particular game to make a comeback – it’s a total surprise!
Konami recently revealed the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. The highlight of this collection is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, bringing the complete main Metal Gear Solid series to modern consoles. As a bonus, Konami is also including Metal Gear: Ghost Babel in the bundle.
Okay, so if you haven’t heard of Metal Gear: Ghost Babel – it was released here in North America as just Metal Gear Solid – it came out on the Game Boy Color way back in 2000. The story takes place after the first Metal Gear game, and honestly, the gameplay feels a lot like that original. It’s not officially part of the main Metal Gear storyline, but critics really loved it back in the day. A lot of them even called it one of the best games ever made for the Game Boy or Game Boy Color.
This Is a Big Deal for Game Boy Fans
The re-release of Metal Gear: Ghost Babel is significant news. For the past twenty years, Ghost Babel has been difficult to find, with used copies often selling for around $150. This new release ensures that Metal Gear fans will have much easier access to the game going forward.
You’ll be able to play Ghost Babel when Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 releases on August 27th. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch (including the new model), and PC.
