Online fans are quick to notice and amplify even the smallest details, and that’s what happened recently when a brief clip featuring actors Peter Claffey and Dex Sol Ansell sparked rumors about Henry Cavill potentially joining the show. This led Claffey to use Instagram to try and quell the speculation about Cavill playing the role of Daemon Blackfyre.
The news about Henry Cavill’s potential casting came out unexpectedly during a filmed interview at New York Comic Con over the weekend. In the clip, a representative was checking if they could reveal certain details about the show, and began comparing the character Ser Dunk to Henry Cavill’s Geralt from The Witcher. During the conversation, someone asked if they could confirm Cavill’s involvement, saying, “Can we say that Henry Cavill is…?” but was quickly stopped by another representative who said, “No, no, don’t say that. Sorry, you didn’t hear that.”
Many people immediately assumed this meant Claffey had stopped Ansell from revealing that Henry Cavill would be in the show. However, Claffey later explained on Instagram that wasn’t true. He posted a clarification stating:
To be clear, what Dex mentioned in the interview wasn’t about Henry Cavill joining the show or the Game of Thrones world – that was a misinterpretation. It had nothing to do with either of those things.
‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms‘ Is Doing Just Fine Without Henry Cavill
As a huge movie and TV fan, I’ve been thinking about casting, and while a big name like Henry Cavill could really help some shows, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has shown something amazing. It’s proving the Game of Thrones universe can still thrive even without relying on huge cameos or massive spectacle. Honestly, I was a little worried at first. Could a Game of Thrones show focused on smaller stories and a less-explored part of Westeros really grab my attention without all the big battles and dragons? But it’s totally working!
It quickly became apparent that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms wasn’t trying to be another Game of Thrones prequel. Instead, it aimed to create a different kind of Thrones story, and it succeeded brilliantly.

The latest episodes have received some of the highest ratings in the history of Game of Thrones. Episode 5 initially tied with Breaking Bad for the best IMDb score ever for a single TV episode. Although the score has decreased a little, the show’s popularity continues to increase each week. With only one episode left, it seems unlikely that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be able to diminish the impressive success of what’s become the most surprisingly popular and critically acclaimed Game of Thrones installment so far.
