Action Thriller Uniting Two Daredevil Stars Is a Streaming Hit on Prime Video

22 years after donning the iconic red Daredevil suit, Ben Affleck is now generating buzz with an entirely new action-packed film. Although he’s well known for his Marvel collaboration in 2002 and movies like Armageddon and Triple Frontier, surprisingly few of these films have led to franchise continuations. However, that pattern changed in 2016 when Affleck collaborated with Jon Bernthal, another Daredevil actor from a different series, to create a cult hit about a tax-preparing professional.

Nine years after its initial release brought in $155 million at the box office, “The Accountant” sequel has returned and is leading the way on streaming platforms. The newest addition to Prime Video’s streaming library, titled “The Accountant 2“, premiered last month following a brief theatrical run and quickly garnered a significant number of viewers on Prime Video. In fact, this suspenseful film even claimed the second spot on Nielsen’s overall streaming rankings, as reported by The Wrap. It was surpassed only by Netflix’s popular series, “Ginny & Georgia“, which finally released its much-anticipated third season on the platform.

Initially premiered in cinemas during April, “The Accountant 2” has grossed approximately $102.1 million globally at the box office so far. This is a slight decrease compared to the worldwide earnings of the first movie. On June 5th, it was made available on Prime Video and accumulated an impressive 1.4 billion minutes of viewing time. Notably, it outperformed “Straw,” a new Tyler Perry release on Netflix, which garnered 881 million viewing minutes upon its premiere.

The Return of Christian Wolff in “The Accountant 2”

In this sequel, Ben Affleck reprises his role as Christian Wolff, a character known for his extraordinary intellect and unconventional tactics. This time, he’s tasked with investigating the murder of a Treasury chief. Joining him is Jon Bernthal, who reappears as Braxton, Christian’s enigmatic younger brother. Both actors have made significant marks in Hollywood, but it’s their roles within the Marvel universe that have earned them the most recognition.

Affleck is famous for his portrayal of Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, in the less successful “Daredevil” movie from Fox. On the other hand, Bernthal is currently part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher. Although they haven’t collaborated within the Marvel universe, they have both been associated with “Daredevil” projects in the past.

Previously, Affleck has openly criticized the shortcomings of the movie “Daredevil” that he starred in. Despite being a passionate fan of the character, the end result fell short of his expectations. Although there have been discussions about him reprising the role of Daredevil, now that Marvel Studios has expanded the Multiverse, Affleck hasn’t definitively rejected the idea. However, he has expressed reservations about his Daredevil facing off against Bernthal’s Punisher, as he believes Bernthal delivers a strong performance as the Punisher, while his portrayal of Daredevil left much to be desired.

Just as Affleck’s enthusiasm for Daredevil was evident, Bernthal has been quite forthcoming about his potential return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as his character. When it emerged that Marvel Studios were planning Daredevil: Born Again, Bernthal hesitated before deciding to be part of the project. Moreover, he’s also set to contribute to an upcoming Punisher special, where he’ll collaborate on the storyline. For the actor, portraying Frank Castle is a serious responsibility, and he won’t take up the role if he doesn’t believe it aligns with the character’s integrity.

If you’re looking forward to watching Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal together on screen, unfortunately, your only options at this moment are through “The Accountant” and its upcoming sequel, “The Accountant 2”. This movie has received positive reviews with a 77% Fresh rating from critics and an impressive 92% score from audiences. In comparison, the original film received a less favorable response with a 53% Rotten rating from critics and a 77% rating from viewers.

The Accountant 2, and its predecessor, are currently streaming exclusively on Prime Video.
