BOCSTE will release shoot ’em up game Ad SHOOt for Switch on July 16, the developer announced.
Ad SHOOt first launched for PC via Steam on November 4, 2024.
Here is an overview of the game, via its Steam page:
About
In this game, you’ll navigate a 2D side-scrolling environment filled with bullet-hell action, where instead of traditional enemies, you’re shooting down fake advertisements. The game is divided into seven distinct stages, and it offers fully voiced dialogue in Japanese.
Story
Growing tired of the constant pre-video advertisements, the main character opts to engage in a fast-paced shooter game (shmup). In this game, blasting ads is the objective. Successfully completing all levels supposedly guarantees an ad-free period, but one can’t help but wonder if it’s as straightforward as that…
Key Features
- Bosses are Advertisers from Fictional Companies – Bosses attack using their company products as bullet-hell advertisements. (Note: Objects resembling hamburgers, cars, and realtors are advertisements and not actual food, vehicles, or people.)
- Full Japanese Voice Acting Voice cast includes Kyouhei Natsume, Haruki Asada, Yuuki Amezawa, Daisuke Hirakawa, and Masahiro Yamanaka. (Note: The English version will include Japanese audio with English subtitles.)
- Beginner-Friendly Shoot ‘Em Up – Recommended even for those who usually don’t play shoot ’em ups. An Easy mode is available, and you can also increase the number of continues from the settings menu. The protagonist’s life is based on an HP gauge, so you can take more hits than it seems.
- Ads Aren’t the Enemy – Defeating bosses earns you skills that can be used in subsequent stages. Not shooting down ads—pausing your shots—can also prove beneficial.
- Score Attack – Global score rankings are categorized by difficulty level. Advanced shooters, aim for the world’s top score in Hard mode.
