Adam Scott provides a promising update on the release of Severance season 3.
I was absolutely hooked by Severance when the first season blew up, so I was thrilled when season 2 finally arrived in January 2025! It was even better than I’d hoped, earning tons of praise and actually becoming Apple TV+’s biggest hit, even beating out Ted Lasso. But now, over a year since season 2 finished, there’s still no news about when they’ll start filming season 3, and honestly, I’m starting to worry we’ll be waiting a really long time.
Speaking with Deadline at the BAFTA Awards, Scott explained that while they’re working to release new seasons faster, quality is their top priority. He said they aim for a turnaround much quicker than the three-year gap between previous seasons, which he admitted was too long. Scott also confirmed that filming for season 3 will begin “very soon,” but kept story details under wraps, stating that revealing anything would spoil the surprise.
While fans are eager for season 3 of Severance, Scott has assured them it won’t take another three years to arrive. However, a two-year wait still seems likely, as production hasn’t begun yet. This means the show probably won’t be back until sometime after early 2027, two years after the release of season 2.
Fans have long complained about the long waits between seasons of popular streaming shows, and this discussion has grown with series like HBO Max’s The Pitt and Hulu’s Paradise returning yearly. While Severance won’t follow that annual release schedule, the creators are aiming to reduce the time between seasons in the future.
The delay of Severance season 2 was largely due to the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes, which halted production. Now, Scott explains that season 3 is taking time because the creators are dedicated to delivering a high-quality final product and don’t want to rush it. Despite a three-year gap between seasons, the show has consistently received high praise – season 1 earned a 97% critics’ score and season 2 a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes – suggesting the quality remains strong.
