Adolescence and It’s a Sin stars confirmed for new Channel 4 action thriller tackling far-right violence

Channel 4 has unveiled their latest action-thriller titled “Deadpoint,” set to star notable actors such as Christine Tremarco, recognized from the series “Adolescence,” and Callum Scott Howells, who gained prominence in “It’s a Sin.

The show, hailing from Clerkenwell Films (under the Baby Reindeer label), is being brought to life by first-time writer Matt Hartley. It will be helmed by directors Marco Kreuzpaintner, known for Those About to Die, and Laura Scrivano, renowned for The Lazarus Project. Filming for this project is currently underway.

In the breathtaking and harsh environment of Eryri National Park, a tight-knit group of mountain climbers are shaken to their core following a devastating incident during an expedition. This five-part thriller features Annes Elwy (Wolf) and Michael Socha (Showtrial).

In the wake of their shared sorrow following the accident, Aaron (Howells) feels compelled to take blame upon himself and departs his hometown, much to the dismay of his sister Seren (Elwy). Upon returning home after a year away, he’s compelled to face his intense fear of mountain climbing when Seren doesn’t come back from a routine ascent.

As a film enthusiast, I found myself embarking on a journey, venturing into the rugged mountains for the first time since the heart-wrenching event that shook me to my core. Unbeknownst to me, I was not alone in these towering peaks. In the shadows, a radical fringe group, self-dubbed as the Justice Crusade, under the enigmatic and volatile leadership of the ex-soldier Fairweather (Socha), were also pursuing their own objectives within the very same mountains.

The story goes on to show that the Justice Crusade, an assorted team of people joined by shared ideals and a common desire for camaraderie, start to unravel as Fairweather discloses his plans. This dissension makes them not just divided but potentially explosive.

Simultaneously, Detective Natasha Evermore (Tremarco) independently heads towards the Welsh mountains. She’s been tracking Fairweather’s group and finds their recent actions suspicious, believing they might be leading up to a significant event.

In this secluded setting, diverse narratives intertwine, giving birth to a distinctly gripping tale. This thriller delves into themes of grief, extremism, and endurance. A blend of heart-pounding wilderness adventure and raw emotion, Deadpoint leaves you on the edge of your seat, reflecting contemporary societal tensions. It peels back layers to reveal our true selves, our facades, and the actions we take when suddenly cut off from support.

In addition to Howells, Tremarco, Elwy, and Socha, the series now includes Gary Lewis (A Thousand Blows), John Bradley (3 Body Problem), Sam Keeley (Task), Martin McCann (Hostage), Fflyn Edwards (The Crown), Emily Stott (Foundation), and Ellora Torchia (House of the Dragon). In simpler terms, these seven new actors have been added to the cast of the series alongside Howells, Tremarco, Elwy, and Socha.

Introducing the stellar cast are Gwilym Lee, known for “The Great”, Michael Jibson from “No Return”, Crystal Condie of “Casualty”, Siôn Alun Davies from “Steeltown Murders”, Oliver Finnegan who appeared in “Outlander”, Rhodri Meilir famous for “In My Skin” and Arthur Hughes, best recognized for “Shardlake”.

As a film aficionado, I’m ecstatic to share that “Deadpoint” promises an exhilarating ride! This gripping thriller isn’t just about high-octane action; it delves deep into the lives and struggles of its characters, making their journeys the heart-pounding core of the story. Gwawr Lloyd, the interim head of drama for Channel 4, couldn’t have put it better!

I can’t help but be captivated by Matt Hartley’s exceptional debut script, a tale that unfolds amidst the awe-inspiring Eryri mountain range. It’s truly an honor to collaborate with Clerkenwell Films, alongside a talented cast and crew whose collective efforts promise a series that will both challenge our minds and quicken our pulses.

Deadpoint will air on Channel 4.
