It’s been two and a half years since Jack Thorne, known for shows like Adolescence and The Hack, began working on an adaptation of Lord of the Flies, and now we’re finally getting a glimpse with the release of the first photos.
The photos feature the main actors: Winston Sawyers plays Ralph, Lox Pratt plays Jack, David McKenna plays Piggy, and Ike Talbut plays Simon.
This new TV series is the first-ever adaptation of William Golding’s classic 1954 novel. It was directed by Marc Munden, who also worked on ‘Help’, and produced by Eleven, the company behind ‘Ten Pound Poms’. The BBC and Australian broadcaster Stan collaborated on the production.
The series, filmed in Malaysia, will also star Thomas Connor as Roger, twins Noah and Cassius Flemming as Sam and Eric, Cornelius Brandreth as Maurice, and Tom Page-Turner as Bill.

The series ‘Lord of the Flies’ tells the story of a group of British schoolboys who are stranded on a deserted tropical island after their plane crashes. With no adults to guide them, they must attempt to govern themselves.
To keep things orderly, the boys create a system, with Ralph in charge and the smart, thoughtful Piggy helping him.

Jack, responsible for maintaining the signal fire, becomes preoccupied with hunting and trying to take control. He quickly convinces other boys to abandon their duties and, eventually, this leads the group from optimism to disaster.

The adaptation remains faithful to the source novel and its early 1950s setting on a remote Pacific island, but it also explores the story’s deeper emotional ideas – like what it means to be human, the pain of lost innocence, and the challenges of growing up as a boy – in greater detail.
I’m really fascinated by this series – it’s structured around four longer episodes, and what I love is that each one is named after a key character: Ralph, Piggy, Simon, and Jack. It feels like a really personal way to explore their stories.

A release date has not yet been confirmed, but will be announced in due course.
