Last month, Stephen Graham hinted at a potential continuation of the popular series Adolescence while celebrating his Golden Globe win for his role in it.
When asked about continuing the show after winning the award, Graham confirmed it was always intended to be a single, complete story. He and co-creator Jack Thorne have consistently said there won’t be a sequel, as Jamie Miller’s story has already reached its conclusion.
Graham explained that the answer to that question was currently lost in his and Jack Thorne’s memories, but they planned to reveal it in three to four years, so viewers should keep watching for updates.
In a recent exclusive interview for our video series, The TopMob Writers’ Room, Thorne explained what Graham meant, and unfortunately, the news isn’t promising for fans.
He explained that they’re unsure what “it” is, and it’s possible they may never know. He recalled someone describing it as being hidden in the deepest parts of our minds, and that remains true – there’s no clear explanation or resolution to the mystery.
My husband’s sister called last night and asked if we were working on a story about prisons. I told her, quite firmly, that we weren’t. We don’t have any story like that at all. I guess it’s possible we might someday, but not currently.

Ever since reports surfaced last year that Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment was talking with director Philip Barantini about continuing the incredibly popular series, rumors of a second season have been widespread.
It looks like fans might be waiting a long time, possibly indefinitely, for any new standalone stories from Graham, Thorne, and Barantini.

Thorne discussed his new four-part television adaptation of Lord of the Flies in an interview with The TopMob Writers’ Room. The series will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday, February 8th.
He discussed his previous work on projects like Enola Holmes, This Is England, and His Dark Materials, and also mentioned the Beatles films he’s currently working on with director Sam Mendes.
