Recently, Warner Bros., Cartoon Network, and Adult Swim have been making headlines. Paramount/Skydance outbid Netflix for Warner Bros. Discovery, but that’s not the only news. Tubi recently started streaming many classic Cartoon Network shows. Plus, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim have updated their online platforms, which could signal bigger changes to come for both channels.
YouTube TV, the streaming service that combines channels you’d normally get with cable, recently split Cartoon Network and Adult Swim into two separate channels. Previously, they were combined on one channel. As of today, YouTube TV hasn’t explained why it made this change. This split could be significant for both Adult Swim and Cartoon Network, especially considering the upcoming merger between Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount.
Will Cartoon Network & Adult Swim Unfuse?

Adult Swim has become increasingly prominent on Cartoon Network, expanding from a late-night block to nearly all-day programming. Shows like American Dad, Bob’s Burgers, and Family Guy, along with original series such as Rick and Morty and Smiling Friends, have made Adult Swim frequently more popular and highly-rated than Cartoon Network itself.
While Cartoon Network and Adult Swim likely won’t become completely separate, it’s becoming increasingly possible that Adult Swim will eventually become the more prominent brand. The recent announcement of Paramount+ and HBO Max merging suggests that media companies are willing to make big changes. As traditional TV faces challenges from streaming services, it will be interesting to see how Adult Swim and Cartoon Network evolve in the future.
Besides the planned merger, a major surprise from Adult Swim is the news that Smiling Friends will conclude after its third season. The show’s creators, Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel, have stated that, even though the show was picked up for two more seasons, they believe this is the right moment to finish the story of Charlie, Pim, Mr. Boss, and the show’s unique characters.
