The second season of *Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake* arrives on HBO Max on October 23rd, continuing the story of Fionna and Cake in a new adventure. This spin-off takes place in a different universe than the original *Adventure Time*, featuring reimagined versions of familiar characters. While Fionna and Cake will be voiced by their original actors, one character with a close connection to them will have a different voice this season.
Marshall Lee is the gender-swapped version of Marceline the Vampire Queen, appearing in the Fionna and Cake spin-off. Donald Glover, known for his role in Community, originally voiced the character, giving him similar vampire abilities to the original Marceline. While Glover voiced Marshall Lee in both Adventure Time and the first season of Fionna and Cake, he won’t be returning for future episodes. Currently, a new voice actor hasn’t been announced, and since Marshall Lee doesn’t speak in the latest trailer, his role in the upcoming second season is unknown.
Adventure Time Changes
Donald Glover isn’t the only cast member changing for the upcoming second season of *Fionna and Cake*. Several roles have been recast. Harvey Guillen, known for *What We Do in the Shadows*, will now voice Gary Prince, the male version of Princess Bubblegum. Additionally, Ashley Burch is taking over the role of the Huntress Wizard, originally voiced by Jenny Slate in the original *Adventure Time* series. While Glover hasn’t commented on his departure, fans are disappointed he won’t be returning.
At New York Comic-Con, details were shared about the return of Fionna and Cake later this month. The show will follow Fionna and Cake as they continue their adventures, and Huntress Wizard on a dangerous mission with high stakes. The new season looks to continue the multiverse exploration that was central to the first season.
The first season of Fionna and Cake presented a fresh look at characters originally born from the Ice King’s stories. Fionna, living in a world similar to ours, unexpectedly found herself on a thrilling adventure alongside Simon Petrikov, and they narrowly avoided the destruction of all universes due to a major danger. Finn and Jake also reappeared in the spin-off, but as alternate versions of themselves.
