One reason why One Piece remains fascinating is its habit of revisiting unresolved past events, creating a narrative rich with mysteries that grow more complex over time. Oda frequently provides answers to these questions in surprising ways. This dynamic has been evident in the latest Elbaf Arc of the manga. Following the tumultuous battle at Egghead, Luffy and his team arrive in the legendary land of Giants. However, they were unaware that their arrival would lead to even more trouble, as they became embroiled in another conflict.
The Holy Knights’ stealthy invasion of the island and their focus on the children serves as a prelude to their larger objective: compelling every Giant to submit to the World Government. As the climactic conflict draws near, the World Government aims to bolster its military forces even more. With no other race possessing the same might as the Giants, they become an appealing target. Prior to Luffy and his companions facing off against the Holy Knights, the narrative shifts to reveal Harald’s past. We witness his transformation from a rebellious youth to the greatest king ever of Elbaf. Remarkably, this backstory sheds light on what truly transpired regarding the Giants encased in Punk Hazard.
One Piece’s Elbaf Arc Reveals the Truth About the Frozen Giants From the Punk Hazard Arc
In Chapter 1154, Jarul, the protagonist of the Giant’s tale, and Harald discuss the Reverie Incident, in which the king of Elbaf disguised himself as a guard to enter Reverie. However, Harald failed to obtain crucial information due to a murder that occurred there. Jarul brings up a secretive band of Giant shipbuilders who equipped themselves with warhammers. Harald thought they were mere legend, but the reality is more sinister than he imagines. Despite traversing the globe extensively, these shipbuilders would correspond from Elbaf. Tragically, their last letter revealed that they had been taken captive, and the Giants’ group was never heard from again. The group numbered over a hundred Giants, some of whom were descendants of the Ancient Giants, and they were all seized together.
In essence, what was so incredible it became more like a legend with time, are the tales of those colossal beings, as Jarul has merely heard whispers they remain frozen somewhere globally. The fate of these creatures serves as an ongoing symbol of how their species is viewed as a global adversary, particularly by the World Government. It’s undeniable that when Jarul speaks about those frozen Giants from Chapter 660 in the Punk Hazard Arc, he’s referring to them. Up until now, Chopper and the others who saw the incident haven’t uncovered much about their true story, but this narrative finally sheds light on it.
