After 13 Years, Surprise Crunchyroll Anime Confirms Final Season Return

I’ve been following anime for a while now, and it’s been a fantastic year for fans! It’s especially exciting to see some big titles coming back, and Crunchyroll just announced a surprise return for Date A Live. After thirteen years since the first adaptation, it looks like they’re gearing up for a final season. While a lot of popular series are getting new episodes, Date A Live seems to be wrapping things up, and the Spring 2026 releases are already looking strong.

Last spring, a teaser hinted at a new Date A Live anime to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original light novels. Now, it’s been officially confirmed: a new series is coming! However, Date A Live F Last Date seems to be the planned finale of the anime. You can find the first teaser trailer and poster for the new season below.

What Is Date A Live F Last Date?

A new installment of Date A Live, titled Date A Live F Last Date, is currently being developed, though a release date hasn’t been announced yet, and it’s unclear if it will be available outside of Japan. Promotional materials suggest this could be the final chapter in the Date A Live story, which has spanned five seasons, a spin-off anime, and a movie. The latest teasers hint that Shido and his friends are entering the final stages of their battle, with the last pieces of the puzzle falling into place.

Junji Nishimura is directing the new anime for Fugaku, and the original voice actors are returning to their roles. Nobunga Shimazaki and Marina Inoue will lead the cast as Shido Itsuka and Tohka Yatogami in Date A Live F Last Date. Joining them are returning favorites Misuzu Togashi, Ayana Taketatsu, Iori Nomizu, Asami Sanada, Maaya Uchida, Sarah Emi Bridcutt, Minori Chihara, Ayumi Mano, Hitomi Nabatame, Akari Kageyama, Aya Endo, and many others.

Date A Live Creator Hypes Final Season

To mark the 15th anniversary of the ‘Date A Live’ light novels, author Koshi Tachibana shared some thoughts on the upcoming anime project. He pointed out that someone born when the series began would now be in junior high, while a junior high student at the time is now around 30 years old. Tachibana then jokingly noted that he himself was 24 when the first volume came out and decided to stop calculating his current age there!

Tachibana shared how special it is for a series to last this long and still keep things fresh. They expressed sincere thanks to all the fans who have supported the series over the years and encouraged them to anticipate ‘Date A Live F: Last Date’! It sounds like fans can expect a big finale.
