After 3 Years and Major Controversy, Prime Video’s Hit Fantasy Series Confirms Final Episode’s Premiere Date

Prime Video stands out from other streaming services by heavily investing in fantasy programming. Beyond the ambitious five-season run of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, they’ve also found success with The Legend of Vox Machina, the popular animated series based on Critical Role. Prime Video also provided a platform for fantasy shows like The Wheel of Time and Carnival Row, giving them a chance to connect with audiences – something not all streamers do.

Prime Video’s adaptation of the popular novel Good Omens, by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, has been a surprising success. The show didn’t just recreate the book; it expanded the story with ideas the authors had developed, even before Pratchett’s passing. However, the final season faced some challenges and disagreements. Now, Prime Video has announced that the last episode of Good Omens will premiere on May 13th this summer.

Good Omens Final Episode Will Debut This Summer

And finally…3. See you soon

Season two of Good Omens premiered on Prime Video in July 2023, finishing with a shocking cliffhanger. The ending saw Aziraphale leave Crowley and Earth to return to Heaven, where he’s tasked with initiating the second coming of Christ. This unexpected turn left many storylines unresolved, setting the stage for future episodes.

Despite being renewed for another season in December, production on Good Omens halted in 2024 following public allegations of sexual assault against its creator, Neil Gaiman. In October 2024, it was announced that Gaiman would leave the series, and the planned six-episode final season would be significantly shortened. Instead of a full season, fans will now receive a single 90-minute movie to conclude the story of Good Omens.

Prime Video announced today that the series will conclude with a final movie premiering on May 13th, almost three years after the last episodes aired. While fans of the show – and the dynamic between Michael Sheen and David Tennant – will be glad to have a conclusion, it’s also disappointing to see it end. Once, a Good Omens adaptation, like many projects connected to Neil Gaiman, was highly anticipated by fantasy fans. Now, even dedicated viewers might find it hard to stay fully engaged.

The recent allegations against Neil Gaiman also impacted The Sandman on Netflix, with the show wrapping up quickly, though the creator maintained this was the original plan. Disney canceled a planned movie adaptation of Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book. While Gaiman has returned to social media, it doesn’t seem like any of his works will be adapted for screen again soon, potentially making Good Omens 3 his final television project.
