It’s been a while since Jujutsu Kaisen 0 came out (2021 in Japan, 2022 in the US). With the third season of the main Jujutsu Kaisen series on its way, it’s helpful to remember what happened in this prequel movie. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 introduced important characters and established key details about the world that will become significant, especially in Season 3. The film explores the heartbreaking backstory of a powerful cursed spirit, reveals the full potential of a strong sorcerer, and shows the dangerous goals of a villain, all of which are essential for understanding the larger Jujutsu Kaisen story.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 isn’t a standalone story; it’s essential for understanding the main series. It lays the groundwork for the current conflicts, explaining why characters act the way they do and setting up the dangers we’ll see in the next season.
10) Yuta Can Mimic Any Cursed Technique

The movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0 focuses on Yuta Okkotsu, a new student at Jujutsu High. Initially shy and burdened by guilt, Yuta develops his abilities rapidly throughout the film. His full potential is unleashed during the final battle, where it’s revealed he can perfectly replicate the Cursed Techniques of other sorcerers. After watching Toge Inumaki use his incredibly rare Cursed Speech, Yuta successfully copies and uses it against Suguru Geto.
His ability to perfectly copy others comes from his bond with Rika and a huge supply of cursed energy, making him a sorcerer who’s hard to read and incredibly dangerous. Though the details of how this power works aren’t fully explained, it clearly establishes him as a valuable and strong asset to Jujutsu High.
9) Gojo Had No Choice But to Kill Geto

Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto had been close friends and classmates for years, but Gojo was ultimately forced to kill Geto. This happened after Geto unleashed a massive, destructive attack known as the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons. Although Yuta managed to defeat Geto in battle, Geto was severely injured. Gojo found his dying friend and, with great sadness, ended his life – an event that wasn’t shown on screen.
Gojo made a heartbreaking but essential choice to save the world. Geto had gone too far with his plan to create a world exclusively for sorcerers, aiming to eliminate everyone else. For Gojo, killing Geto – someone he still cared about deeply – was a personal loss, demonstrating the heavy burden even the most powerful sorcerer must bear.
8) Suguru Geto Planned to Kill Yuta to Obtain Rika

Suguru Geto created the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons with two main purposes: to create widespread chaos and, more importantly, to single out and eliminate Yuta Okkotsu. Geto’s plan was that by killing Yuta, the powerful cursed spirit bound to him, Rika Orimoto, would be freed. He then intended to use his ability to control cursed spirits to absorb Rika, making her his strongest asset.
Rika’s immense cursed energy and frightening abilities were crucial to Geto’s plans. He believed that killing Yuta and breaking his connection to Rika was essential for achieving his goal: a world without non-sorcerers, which he saw as a perfect society.
7) Yuta is Sent to Africa on a Special Mission in the Post Credits

The scene after the credits hints at what’s next for Yuta. It shows him sent on a secret, international mission by Gojo, taking him to Africa where he teams up with Miguel, a former associate of Geto. This confirms the Jujutsu world extends globally and that Yuta has become skilled enough to handle dangerous, undercover assignments abroad.
This assignment quickly positions Yuta as a central figure in the broader conflict, extending beyond just Japan. It also logically explains why he wasn’t present in the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen and, crucially, sheds light on the tragic events that unfolded during the Shibuya Incident.
6) Inumkai’s Cursed Speech Technique and Its Limitations

Toge Inumaki comes from a family with a unique ability called Cursed Speech – he can make people obey him simply by speaking. Because of this power, he carefully chooses his words, often using ingredients from rice balls – like ‘Salmon’ or ‘Tuna’ – when talking to friends. This prevents him from accidentally controlling them with his cursed energy.
This technique is very strong and works well, but it has serious downsides. Using it puts a lot of strain on Inumaki’s throat, and powerful commands can even injure him. Because of this, he has to be extremely careful and precise when using it – it’s a risky ability that can easily backfire.
5) Yuta Has Unlimited Cursed Energy With Rika

Yuta Okkotsu is known as an incredibly powerful sorcerer, with a cursed energy level rivaled only by Gojo. However, this immense power doesn’t come from within him. It’s actually provided by his connection to Rika, a very powerful cursed spirit who acts as a source of almost limitless energy for Yuta.
Yuta’s energy levels can sometimes exceed even those of Satoru Gojo, letting him perform advanced techniques and maintain his abilities for a long time. Unlike Gojo, who can continuously use his cursed energy without getting tired thanks to his Six Eyes, Yuta eventually gets drained when using his power. This massive energy reserve is a primary reason why Yuta is considered such a powerful and important figure in the jujutsu world.
4) The Reason Maki Left the Zenin Clan

Maki Zenin turned her back on her family, the powerful and traditional Zenin Clan. Despite being one of the three most influential families in the jujutsu world – alongside the Gojo and Kamo clans – she left due to their problematic values. The Zenin Clan is led by men who hold strict and prejudiced beliefs, considering women to be insignificant. Because Maki was born without any cursed energy, they especially looked down on her, seeing her as a disgrace to the family name.
Maki faced a huge challenge: a natural limitation that left her with almost no cursed energy. Determined to become a strong sorcerer anyway, she focused entirely on mastering cursed tools and martial arts. She wanted to disprove her clan’s outdated and damaging beliefs and become their leader, relying solely on her own physical power and abilities.
3) Yuta is Deemed a Special Grade Sorcerer

Yuta was quickly recognized as an incredibly powerful sorcerer – a ‘Special Grade’ – because of his enormous cursed energy and his link to Rika. This ranking puts him in the top tier, alongside only three other sorcerers: Satoru Gojo, Suguru Geto, and Yuki Tsukumo.
His ranking isn’t just about how strong he could become; it also highlights the significant threat he presents to people if he can’t control Rika. This level places him among the very few top sorcerers, alongside three of the most respected and powerful figures in the Jujutsu world.
2) Yuta Was Sentenced to Death (And Saved By Gojo)

When Jujutsu leaders realized how dangerous and strong Yuta had become after Rika attached herself to him, they immediately ordered his secret execution. They were afraid his immense and unpredictable power could cause a worldwide disaster.
Honestly, it reminded me of what Gojo did for Yuji later on! He stepped in for Yuta too, seeing what a good person he was and just how much potential he had. He basically convinced the higher-ups to hold off on executing Yuta, arguing that he deserved a chance to learn control at Jujutsu High and manage Rika’s power with proper guidance. It was amazing to see him fight for Yuta like that!
1) Rika’s Origins as Special Grade Cursed Spirit

Yuta was devastated when his childhood friend, Rika Orimoto, died in a terrible traffic accident right before his eyes. Their bond was incredibly strong – they had even promised to marry each other someday. The tragedy was compounded when Rika later became a powerful and dangerous Cursed Spirit.
Yuta was so consumed by sadness, shock, and disbelief over Rika’s death that he unintentionally channeled his cursed energy into her corpse. This unintentionally cursed Rika’s spirit, linking it to Yuta and causing her to become the incredibly powerful cursed spirit later known as the “Queen of Curses.”
