After a seven-year break following the conclusion of Gintama, creator Hideaki Sorachi is back with a new series in Weekly Shonen Jump. This year has been significant for Sorachi, as Gintama celebrated the 20th anniversary of its manga and anime debut, leading to renewed interest in his work—including a new anime based on one of his early projects and additional Gintama films. Now, Sorachi is starting a fresh story.
Following some recent cancellations, Shonen Jump has added several new series, and one of them comes from Gintama creator Hideaki Sorachi. His new series, Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz, has a completely different premise – a clone of a demon lord must defeat a high school student who is also a hero. However, despite the new setting, fans of Gintama will immediately recognize Sorachi’s style in the first chapter.
Gintama Creator’s Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz Debuts in Shonen Jump

Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz tells the story of Valaris III, a clone of a powerful demon king who finds herself unexpectedly attending high school. Initially, she intends to hide her true identity and manipulate humanity, but her plans are complicated when a new student, Akira Kumon, can see through her disguises. Despite her unusual abilities, Akira doesn’t seem fazed, and a strange connection forms between them. It quickly becomes apparent that Valaris III hasn’t fully mastered her demon king powers, and surprisingly, she’s been anticipating Akira’s arrival.
Valaris has been searching for a troubled student nicknamed “Demon King Commode,” notorious for causing chaos at schools. She hopes to harness his power for her own goals, and their paths finally cross in a bathroom. This bathroom holds a hidden portal to her home world, but she’s stuck until she gains the strength to overcome the new hero who rose to power after the previous Demon King was defeated. Teaming up with Akira, who becomes incredibly powerful while using the restroom, they embark on a chaotic and unpredictable journey.
What Does This Mean for Gintama’s Creator?

Hideaki Sorachi’s new series, Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz, delivers the witty writing and humor his fans love. The first chapter is impressively long – a full 70 pages! This makes it significantly larger than the debut chapters of other new series released this month, signaling that Shueisha is giving Sorachi a lot of space to develop his story.
I’m cautiously optimistic about Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz! While the initial numbers suggest it might avoid the quick cancellation some new series face, it’s definitely not a sure thing. We’ve seen so many creators over at Shonen Jump try for a comeback, only to stumble again, and even someone like Masashi Kishimoto from Naruto faced difficulties with their second project. It’s really just a wait-and-see situation to find out how this one performs.
