A lesser-known anime series from Shonen Jump is making a comeback after being cancelled eight years ago, and we now know when it will premiere. It’s a fantastic time for fans of older anime, as many beloved franchises are returning with new shows and movies. These projects range from continuing the original story to completely reimagining it, but a lot of exciting revivals are also bringing back cancelled manga adaptations.
Tsuyoshi Takaki’s Black Torch initially ran in Shueisha’s Jump Square and Jump+ from 2016 to 2018, but didn’t gain much popularity before its conclusion. Now, the series has a chance to reach a wider audience with a newly announced anime revival. The Black Torch anime will premiere on July 4th and be available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
Black Torch Anime Revival Confirms July 2026 Release Date
The anime series Black Torch is set to premiere on July 4th, 2026. Crunchyroll will stream the show for viewers in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS countries. Kei Umabiki is directing the anime, with animation by 100studio. Gigaemon Ichikawa is writing the series’ script, Gou Suzuki is designing the characters, and Yutaka Yamada will compose the music.
The latest news confirms Nobuhiko Okamoto and Toshiyuki Morikawa will voice the characters Koga and Amagi, respectively. They join Ryota Suzuki (Jiro Azuma), Yoji Ueda (Rago), Sayaka Senbongi (Ichika Kishimojin), and Junya Enoki (Reiji Kirihara) as new cast members. Since the original series only had under 20 chapters, the anime will likely adapt the entire story.
What Is Black Torch?

Series creator Tsuyoshi Takaki expressed his excitement and surprise about the anime adaptation of BLACK TORCH. He credits the fans, both in Japan and internationally, for making it happen. Takaki has been involved in the production, overseeing the settings and storyboards, and believes the anime beautifully recreates the original manga while adding even more to it. He describes the new adaptation as bringing BLACK TORCH to life with voice acting, sound, animation, and color, promising plenty of action, cats, and…well, thighs! He hopes everyone enjoys it.
The original creator is heavily involved in the new Black Torch anime, signaling a big push to make it a major franchise. With many popular series returning this summer, it’s hoping to reach a wider audience than the manga ever did.
