After Being Fired From His Paramount+ Show, Tom Hardy Should End a 9-Year Crime Series Wait

While it’s disappointing to hear Tom Hardy is leaving his Paramount+ crime show, it could free him up to return for a second season of one of his best, but lesser-known, TV series. Hardy’s career has always been full of surprises since he first gained attention in the early 2000s. Before becoming a major Hollywood star, he actually had a small role in a Star Trek movie – he played Shinzon in 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis. But it was the independent film Bronson in 2008 that really launched him to fame.

Tom Hardy quickly gained recognition with roles in films like Inception, Warrior, and The Dark Knight Rises, where he played the memorable villain Bane. This success led to his part in Mad Max: Fury Road, which remains one of his most popular movies. Known for taking unexpected paths, Hardy then stepped away from major Hollywood films to star in television series such as Peaky Blinders and Mobland. While he was let go from season two of Mobland, this could actually be beneficial, allowing him to revisit and continue his critically acclaimed series, Taboo.

Tom Hardy’s Mobland Season 2 Exit Free Him Up To Make Taboo Season 2

In the British crime drama Mobland, Hardy starred as Harry Da Souza, a ruthless enforcer for the Harrigan crime family. Da Souza was key to the complex and twisting power battles of the first season. However, as the series progressed, the Harrigan family became the central focus, making Hardy’s exit during the second season not entirely unexpected.

The potential involvement of Tom Hardy could still be crucial for the future of the Mobland series. However, it’s exciting news for his fans, as it might allow him to revisit a project after his short-lived 2017 series, Taboo. That show, which Hardy co-created with his father, Chips Hardy, and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, followed Hardy’s character, James Delaney, a businessman returning to England from Africa in 1814. After a decade abroad, Delaney gets involved in the intense trade conflicts happening as Britain and the US go to war.

Similar to Peaky Blinders and other shows by Steven Knight, Taboo is very different from traditional, overly serious historical dramas like HBO’s John Adams. Featuring a fantastic cast – including Stephen Graham, Oscar winner Jessie Buckley, Oona Chaplin, and Jonathan Pryce – Taboo is a quick-moving, intense, and surprising historical drama that doesn’t shy away from harshness and violence.

Taboo Is One Of Tom Hardy’s Most Underrated Projects 9 Years Later

It’s disappointing that Hardy won’t be in season 2 of MobLand, but if this allows him to finally make season 2 of Taboo, it could be a good trade. Taboo‘s bold criticism of the East India Trading Company offers the kind of exciting historical storytelling that audiences are craving, and we really need to see that kind of show back on our screens.

Following the huge success of the Peaky Blinders movie, many believe a continuation of Taboo is the logical next project for Tom Hardy and Steven Knight. With Tom Hardy now finished with season two of Mobland, a new season of Taboo appears much more likely.
