After Cancelling Most PC Ports, Sony Promotes New ‘PC Ready’ Controller

Okay, so on the surface, everything seems normal at Sony. They weren’t the ones to announce that fewer PlayStation games would be coming to PC. But it’s kind of ironic, and honestly a little funny, that on the very same day reports surfaced saying we probably won’t see many more single-player exclusives on PC, Sony went ahead and advertised a new controller bundle specifically for PC gaming. It just feels a bit…off, you know?

Basically, this is a standard black PlayStation 5 controller that comes with a USB cable so you can use it with a computer.

Some PlayStation social media pages in certain regions have begun advertising the product for $74.99. Marketing materials describe it as easy to set up and incredibly immersive.

Steam already lets you use a PS5 controller with most PC games, so this news doesn’t change that. You can still connect your PS5 controller to your computer, but you won’t be able to play games like Saros or Marvel’s Wolverine on PC anymore.

Sony will keep bringing its ongoing service games, like Marathon and Fairgames, to PC. These games rely on a large player base to thrive, so continued PC releases are important. Plus, the success of Helldivers 2 shows there’s potential to bring these types of games to Xbox Series X|S consoles as well.

It will also be worth watching how this impacts Sony’s efforts to sell accessories for both consoles and PCs.

Over the last few years with the PlayStation 5, the company has created a variety of accessories for both PS5 and PC gamers. Coming later this year are the Pulse Elevate wireless speakers and the FlexStrike wireless fight stick, both of which work with both platforms.
