The next Avengers movie has gone through many changes since it was first envisioned. Initially, Kang the Conqueror was intended to be the main villain, but problems arose. After legal issues involving Jonathan Majors and a lack of audience enthusiasm for Kang following Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Marvel decided to switch to Doctor Doom as the primary threat. Recent leaks about the movie’s plot have disappointed fans, particularly because one storyline involves a previously underutilized Avengers team. Many hope Marvel will eventually find a way to properly showcase this team in a future project.
Even though Doctor Doom is a stronger villain choice than Kang, the next Avengers movie was expected to finally showcase the Young Avengers, a team with a lot of potential that hasn’t been used much in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Young Avengers Need to Make MCU Debut

Marvel Studios has been carefully building towards introducing the Young Avengers. We first met Kamala Khan in a Disney+ series, followed by Kate Bishop, the new Hawkeye, in the Hawkeye show. At the end of Hawkeye, Kamala asked Kate to join her new Avengers team. Other future members were introduced in earlier projects: Patriot appeared in the Captain America films, Wiccan in the Disney+ series Agatha All Along, Kid Loki in Loki, and America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Early plans for Avengers 5 involved the Young Avengers taking center stage. The story would have seen them officially forming as a team and battling a version of Kang, specifically the lizard-like Kang from the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. They were intended to win that fight, but a twist revealed the existence of multiple Kangs, ultimately leading to the setup for the Secret Wars storyline.
The comics version of the Young Avengers included a Kang variant, Iron Lad, which could have been a connection here. However, a lot of groundwork has already been laid for the Young Avengers, making it likely they’ll play a significant role in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even with the introduction of the X-Men and Fantastic Four. Although Avengers: Doomsday will focus on the New Avengers (previously known as the Thunderbolts) and the X-Men, it’s time for the Young Avengers to finally team up and appear together in the MCU.
How Can MCU Debut the Young Avengers Team?

The Disney+ series Marvel Zombies actually highlights how fun a Young Avengers show could be. It was fantastic to see characters like Kamala Khan, Kate Bishop, and Ironheart together, and they deserve their own live-action series. Bringing in Wiccan, America Chavez, Patriot, and especially Hulkling (who hasn’t appeared yet) would make for a really exciting project that Marvel should definitely pursue.
The Disney+ series have given us a good idea of how the Young Avengers might come together. Kamala Khan’s appearance in The Marvels especially links them to the established Avengers through Captain Marvel. Letting these young heroes develop and learn, perhaps with guidance from the original Avengers, would be a great way to introduce them to the MCU. Another possibility is a storyline where the government tries to control or stop them, mirroring the plot of The Champions comic. Either way, it’s time to see the Young Avengers officially form within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As a huge comic book fan, I’ve been dreaming about a Young Avengers adaptation for ages. Honestly, the perfect home for it feels like Disney+. The comics are so important for LGBTQ+ representation – characters like Wiccan, Hulkling, and America Chavez deserve to have their stories told authentically. Disney’s been hesitant to really explore those themes in its films, but I think a streaming series gives them more room to do it right. With Marvel focusing on X-Men and Fantastic Four on the big screen for a while, Disney+ feels like the ideal place for Young Avengers to shine, maybe even alongside the more mature content like Daredevil. This team needs its moment, and I’m hoping Disney+ will finally give it to them.
