After a detour lasting several months, One Piece Chapter 1168 finally returns to the story arc that began in Chapter 1152. Author Eiichiro Oda is famous for including intricate details, which often results in lengthy flashbacks. This particular flashback, initially focused on the death of the Giant King Harold, unexpectedly shifted to the events of God Valley. What began as a simple backstory has now revealed God Valley to be a much more significant and eventful location than fans initially imagined.
Honestly, this flashback has been wild! We started out trying to understand how Harold died, but then BAM – Rocks D. Xebec, the most infamous pirate ever, showed up! And it totally flipped everything we thought we knew about him. Turns out, Rocks wasn’t just a villain; he was a genuinely good man, unbelievably powerful, and had ambitions bigger than anyone else. They even showed that Gol D. Roger wasn’t in the same league! It was almost heartbreaking to see him go. With all the crazy reveals, it’s easy to forget what started it all, but thankfully the latest chapter is bringing us back to the present and focusing on Harold’s final moments again. I’m so ready to see how it all connects!
One Piece Dives Into Latest Flashback’s Original Intent After Six Months

Chapter 1168 of One Piece, titled “The Snows of Elbaph,” picks up after Harold helped the World Government connect with the island of Elbaph. The chapter then shows the day things started to fall apart for Harold, and he lost control of himself. As expected, the problem stems from the power Imu gave him when he became a God’s Knight – power that came with complete obedience to Imu. We also learn that Imu tasked Harold with building an army for the World Government, which conflicted with Harold’s wishes for his people as the King of the Giants.
When Harold wouldn’t comply, Imu took over his body. Desperate to avoid complete control, Harold took extreme action, and it seems likely we’ll soon see him ask Loki to end his life. This extended flashback has been running for over 16 chapters and six months, making it longer than any previous flashback in One Piece, including Oden’s. However, it’s nearing its conclusion, and the story will return to the present, focusing on the Straw Hats confronting a powerful, potentially final enemy. Fortunately, this also gives us a glimpse of how the ultimate war in One Piece might unfold when the conflict with Imu begins.
