Fans will have twice the Frankie Muniz next month! The streaming service will be adding both Agent Cody Banks movies to its selection in November.
Starting November 1st, you’ll be able to watch both Agent Cody Banks movies on Prime Video. The first film, released in 2003, stars Frankie Muniz as Cody Banks, a teenage spy who juggles schoolwork and saving the world—think James Bond for a younger audience! It was a big success in theaters, earning $58.8 million worldwide, despite some critics finding it predictable. The sequel came out in 2004, but didn’t perform as well, bringing in $29 million at the box office.
Hilary Duff played Natalie Connors, the love interest, alongside Frankie Muniz in the first Agent Cody Banks movie. Muniz recently shared on The Joe Vulpis Podcast how Duff got the part. He explained that she was one of his first friends after he moved to Los Angeles to film Malcolm in the Middle. Because of their friendship, Duff asked Muniz to appear as himself on an episode of Lizzie McGuire in 2002. Muniz remembers being on the Lizzie McGuire set and spending time in Duff’s dressing room with her mom, Susan. He described Susan as a very involved stage mom – someone who was quite intense – while emphasizing that he and Duff had a great relationship.
The actor shared a story he’d never told before, admitting it might get him in trouble, but he didn’t mind. He was around 40 at the time, and Hilary Duff’s mother asked him about his summer plans. He explained he was filming a movie called Agent Cody Banks, where he played a character similar to a young James Bond. Susan Duff then asked if there was a female role in the movie that Hilary might be right for. While the actor didn’t give a direct answer, he remembered having final approval over who played his love interest and that they had considered Kristin Kreuk from Smallville for the role of Natalie Connors.
Muniz explained that when he went back to the Lizzie McGuire set, Hilary Duff’s mom told him they’d be spending the summer filming together. He was confused until she revealed Hilary had signed on to Agent Cody Banks – the same movie he was doing. Muniz was shocked because, as far as he knew, Duff hadn’t been considered for the role. He called his agents, who said they’d assumed it was okay since he and Hilary were close. Muniz admitted he wasn’t happy about how it was handled, not because of Hilary herself, but because the decision was made without consulting him.
Frankie Muniz Is Returning to the Role That Made Him Famous
Even now, Agent Cody Banks is the only movie series Frankie Muniz has been a part of, though it only included two films. He mentioned in 2021 that MGM had two ideas for bringing the series back, but he didn’t pursue them. Instead, his next big project is a revival of Malcolm in the Middle. Muniz recently announced that the revival will center around Malcolm and his daughter as they’re unexpectedly drawn back into his parents’ lives when Hal and Lois request his attendance at their 40th wedding anniversary. The Malcolm in the Middle revival is planned to debut on Disney+ in 2026.
The Agent Cody Banks duology arrives on Prime Video on Nov. 1.
