I’m so excited! It feels like forever, but we’re finally getting a new Scary Movie in just two months! Scary Movie 6 is promising to hilariously poke fun at all the horror movies we’ve loved (and been scared by!) over the last twenty years – things like M3GAN, Halloween, Smile, and even Scream. And get this – the Wayans brothers are coming back after over 20 years, along with Anna Faris and Regina Hall as Cindy and Brenda! To get us hyped, the first three Scary Movie films are available to stream for free before the new one hits theaters on June 12th. I can’t wait!
All three original Scary Movie films are now available to stream on Tubi. They were added to the free streaming service on April 1st, along with a lot of other horror movies. The first two films were directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans and starred and were written by Shawn and Marlon Wayans. The franchise changed direction with Scary Movie 3. These early movies are parodies of popular horror films like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Haunting, Signs, and The Ring.
The Scary Movie Franchise Is at Its Best With the Wayans Brothers
The Scary Movie franchise was at its peak when the Wayans brothers were involved. They created a wildly funny and unrestrained approach to horror, mixing familiar horror clichés with social commentary and crude humor. This turned a small-budget film into a hugely successful parody and a quick fan favorite. The first two movies are full of memorable and endlessly quotable lines, and they brilliantly poke fun at the horror genre. After the Wayans brothers left, the series lost its signature irreverent and chaotic humor, and the quality declined, especially with Scary Movie V. While none of the films have been critically acclaimed on Rotten Tomatoes, the latest installment received particularly poor scores, with only 4% from critics and 38% from audiences.
After over twenty years, the Wayans brothers are back for Scary Movie 6, and it promises a return to the wild, unrestrained humor of the early films. Marlon Wayans recently told Entertainment Weekly they’re aiming to recapture the comedic style of the originals. The first trailer suggests they’re on the right track, featuring funny spoofs of scenes from Scream VI and M3GAN, including the famous dance sequence.
Other Horror Movies Now on Tubi
If you’re a horror fan, Tubi is a fantastic streaming service. They recently added a lot of great titles on April 1st, including the first three Scary Movie films. You can also find movies like Cabin Fever, both versions of Carrie (from 1976 and 2013), the first two Child’s Play movies, the first two Jeepers Creepers films, and the original Scream trilogy.
