Aidan’s Shock Affair Rocks Carrie—But Has She Already Moved On With Duncan?

In the final episode of Season 2 of “And Just Like That,” when Carrie and Aidan decided to maintain a long-distance relationship for FIVE YEARS, the likelihood of their success seemed incredibly slim, given that they would have been physically separated for such an extended period.

Despite our initial confidence, it seemed likely that they would reunite and continue their lives in their grand Manhattan townhouse as anticipated. However, Aidan’s son Wyatt unexpectedly caused a significant disruption to these plans.

However, their shared belief has significantly diminished after Aidan’s surprising revelation in the latest episode, “Silent Mode.” This confession has added another layer of complexity to their predicament.

Since Wyatt was at a wilderness camp for the week, Aidan hurried off to New York, which was quite unusual in these challenging circumstances. However, upon his arrival, he unintentionally broke one of Carrie’s windows while attempting to emulate Romeo in Verona and failed. The rest of his stay was spent frantically searching for a replacement, as it turned out the specific type of glass he damaged is incredibly rare and not something that can easily be found or replaced.

As time went on, it grew apparent that his remorse for breaking her window and his eagerness to mend it concealed a far greater mistake. Eventually, he admitted the truth.

After Aidan and Kathy sent their son on his lone adventure at the airport, expecting it to be smooth sailing, it unfortunately became another troublesome event due to a typical Wyatt tantrum. In the end, they found solace in each other’s arms and wound up spending the night together.

He acknowledged that it was an error, we both agreed on this, and he assured me emphatically that it would never recur. With evident self-reproach and worry over the potential consequences of his actions on Carrie, he asserted firmly that it wouldn’t happen again.

However, even though Aidan’s admission was startling, it was perhaps even more surprising to see Carrie’s reaction and the astonishing information that emerged afterwards.

Or:

Aidan’s confession might have been the most shocking part, but Carrie’s response and the subsequent revelation were equally astounding.

She seemed to imply that she could see why it had happened, and it appeared that the dining table incident had affected her more deeply than this current situation. After all, Aidan later gave her the dining table as a gift.

So, what gives?

Perhaps she has chosen to overlook his infidelity from long ago, or maybe she is granting Aidan leniency following the disturbing actions of Wyatt that she encountered in Virginia.

It seems as if Carrie has grown more understanding over the years, or perhaps – though it may sound harsh – her determination to maintain a connection with Aidan has become so strong that she appears to have forfeited rationality.

The jury’s out!

Later on, it was revealed that the terms of their agreement between the two – whether or not they could engage in relationships with others – had not been clearly defined earlier. This unexpected omission left them exposed and vulnerable.

Aidan admitted, “I promised to wait for us both, but unfortunately, I ended up with someone else.” He seemed resolute in taking responsibility for his actions.

In my critique, I must confess, I found myself utterly surprised, perhaps even flabbergasted, when the character Carrie responded with a firm denial to the assumption of monogamy for a duration of five years. Quite unexpected, indeed!

“That’s what you agreed to and even you couldn’t do it.”

However, while Carrie had assured Aidan that she only wanted him and had no intention of involving others, the rules seem to have shifted – it’s worth mentioning that this recent change aligns with Carrie successfully penetrating the cold facade of her neighbor below, renowned biographer Duncan Reeves. Now, he’s preparing mutton stew for her and inviting her to read the opening chapter of his forthcoming book about Margaret Thatcher.

Ooo la la, indeed.

It’s clear from the Season 3 preview that Miranda senses a certain connection between them at an upcoming event. On another instance, when Carrie refers to Duncan as her writing collaborator, Seema wonders if he might be something more.

So, could he?

Absolutely, Carrie and Aidan’s story isn’t over yet. Despite Aidan’s latest misstep possibly giving off a different vibe, both of them continue to care deeply for each other. To put it another way, they’ve progressed significantly in their relationship, just as Take That would say, “They’ve come so far and reached such heights.

However, upon ascending the stairs to hand Carrie a chapter from his latest book, Duncan encountered Aidan, her present boyfriend. Aidan bore an unsettled expression, hinting that he might have some inkling of trouble brewing in the near future.

Is that mutton we can smell?
