Akira Toriyama, the celebrated creator of Dragon Ball, recently contributed to Dragon Ball XenoVerse 3. This latest installment in the popular anime RPG series is among his last projects, completed before his passing in 2024.
This game is coming to the PS5 next year. It was originally hinted at as a project called AGE 1000 and will feature a new character designed by the series creator.
The project was mistakenly labeled ‘XenoVerse 3’ in some places, which led people to believe that was its actual title.
We just announced it at the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026 in Los Angeles!
Fans of Dragon Ball are aware the main story happens around Age 700, and this game takes place a very long time after those events.
The trailer effectively hints at a key part of the story, but what’s really special is that Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball, actually helped plan out where the series would go before his passing.
This looks like a fantastic experience for fans of the series, and it’s a great opportunity for Bandai Namco and Dimps, the game’s developers, to bring this vision to life.
The trailer doesn’t reveal much yet, but more details will be released later. The good news is the next game will still let you create and fully customize your own character, allowing you to live out your own Dragon Ball adventure.
Playing with others online will be a major part of the game, as the developers know many players enjoy that experience. They’ve confirmed it will be a key focus.
Dragon Ball XenoVerse 2, originally launched on PlayStation 4 in 2016, unexpectedly received a PlayStation 5 version in 2024. The game has been a huge success for Bandai Namco, selling over 10 million copies.
The creators are hoping this new, modern take on the series, combined with input from Toriyama, will make the latest installment a big success. We especially enjoyed the look and feel of the trailer.
