A dedicated fan recently cracked a long-standing puzzle in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker after 16 years of trying. While other Zelda games might have larger worlds, Wind Waker is famously full of things to do. With nearly 50 islands, tons of hidden items, and many optional quests, it’s easy to miss something even after multiple playthroughs.
Some players deliberately skip challenging parts of games if they take too long, are too complex, or don’t feel worth the effort. For example, one player struggled with a particularly hard puzzle in The Wind Waker for 16 years, but eventually managed to solve it, much to their own surprise.
Wind Waker’s Sliding Puzzle Can Trip Fans Up
What Makes It So Hard
A Reddit user named silly-strawberry06 shared a screenshot of finally solving the challenging slide puzzle in The Wind Waker. They said it took them 16 years of playing the game to complete! This puzzle, found in the Cabana on the Private Oasis island, is well-known for being difficult—many players admit to skipping it when they replay the game.
Slide puzzles involve taking a familiar picture, breaking it into pieces, and mixing them up. The goal is to put the pieces back in order, but you can only move them by sliding them around within the puzzle’s frame. One commenter, Longjumping_Deer_721, believes the traditional physical puzzles are more manageable, possibly because you can actually touch and feel the pieces, saying they’re “more mind-boggling on a TV screen.”
Adding to the challenge, you’ll notice one lit bulb on the side of this puzzle. To earn all the rewards – which are mostly just rupees – you need to complete it a total of sixteen times.
The slide puzzle in Wind Waker often gets skipped by players because it’s annoying, not very fun, and doesn’t offer worthwhile rewards. However, with enough effort, it is solvable, as demonstrated in this guide.
Sliding puzzles can seem tricky, but once you understand the techniques, they’re actually quite solvable. There are straightforward methods you can learn – similar to solving a Rubik’s Cube – that guarantee a solution. Despite this, people have struggled with these puzzles for years, which made finding a simple solution particularly exciting for the person who shared it.
Zelda Games Have So Many Secrets
Wind Waker Is One Of The Biggest
As a huge Zelda fan, one of the things I love most about the games is discovering all the little secrets hidden everywhere. And Wind Waker is packed with them! There are tons of small puzzles and challenges all over the islands. They aren’t always crucial to the main story, honestly – sometimes they’re just a fun little thing to stumble upon. I know some people might skip them on a second playthrough, but for me, they’re a big part of what makes exploring the world of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker so enjoyable.
