Al Roker Reveals Today Cohosts Had a Sleepover Amid NYC Blizzard

Not even a blizzard could stop the Today gang from bringing you the news.

When New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani restricted travel between 9 p.m. on February 22nd and 12 p.m. on February 23rd because of a blizzard, Al Roker explained how he and his fellow Today show hosts were planning to get to Studio 1A for their broadcast on Monday morning.

Okay, so this week, I’m prepping for what they’re calling the big blizzard of 2026! It’s been a full decade since New York City saw a proper blizzard, so naturally, I’m heading into work early. The city’s planning to close down the streets, and honestly, I always prefer to be prepared and beat the rush. It’s all about staying safe and comfortable, even when Mother Nature throws us a curveball!

As he put it, “We’re going to have a little sleepover, all the folks at the Today show—it’ll be fun.”

The team on Today—including Al, Sheinelle Jones, Craig Melvin, Carson Daly, and Jenna Bush Hager—presented the show on February 23rd, providing an update on the ongoing, four-week search for Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie.

Although investigators haven’t identified any suspects in the case, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos provided an update on the DNA testing being done on evidence found at Nancy’s house.

In a recent interview, Nanos explained that technology is developing so quickly and chaotically that some people believe current issues will simply fix themselves within weeks, months, or a year.

Savannah is still off-air while her mother is being searched for, and her colleagues at Today continue to support her. Hoda Kotb, a former Today anchor who left the show in early 2025, has returned to temporarily fill in for Savannah.

Hoda explained on Today, February 6th, that everyone feels powerless to help because they’re all so close to the person in question and naturally want to support them.

Recognizing Savannah’s consistent support of the Today show team, she shared a message of hope, saying, “People say love means being patient and kind—so we’ll be patient and keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”

Nancy Guthrie, mother to Annie, Camron, and Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, around 9:30 p.m. on January 31st, according to police reports.

Nancy, age 84, was reported missing on February 1st after a friend noticed she hadn’t attended church that morning and alerted her family, police said. Her children searched her property for about an hour before contacting authorities and filing a missing person report around noon.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos later explained the first steps of the investigation, which involved detectives specializing in homicides, at the victim’s home.

We don’t usually involve the sheriff in situations like this, but the details emerging from the house are deeply troubling,” he said at a press conference on February 2nd. “This case was particularly unusual based on what officers described and what we discovered at the scene.

“This isn’t how things usually work,” Nanos explained. “Normally, our homicide detectives are called out when there’s a death, a body to investigate. In this case, we sent them based solely on the information the surveyors gave us.”

After looking into what happened, officials said they think a crime occurred at Nancy’s house.

During a press conference on February 2nd, Nanos stated that investigators now believe they have identified a crime scene after processing the location. He asked for the public’s assistance, noting that the community has historically been helpful in solving difficult cases and he hoped they would come forward again.

The sheriff pointed out that Nancy had trouble walking on her own—she couldn’t walk even a short distance without help—which led him to suspect something wasn’t right about her disappearance.

He stated, “We’re certain she didn’t simply leave on her own.” He also mentioned that evidence at the location suggests she didn’t leave voluntarily.

The search for Nancy is still ongoing, and officials are concerned because she needs daily medication to stay healthy, and she likely doesn’t have it with her.

During a press conference on February 2nd, Nanos explained that an 84-year-old woman under his care is facing serious health issues and requires medication urgently. Without it within 24 hours, her condition could become life-threatening.

We’re asking anyone with information about this – if you’ve seen or heard anything, please get in touch. Call 911. We don’t want another tragedy; we need the public’s help.

Although Nancy has faced some health challenges, Dr. Nanos highlighted that her thinking and memory skills remain excellent.

According to Dr. Nanos, Nancy Guthrie is mentally alert and this situation isn’t related to dementia. She’s very sharp and aware. The family wants to emphasize that she didn’t simply wander off, and any physical limitations she has are simply due to her age.

With the search for Nancy still ongoing, Nanos expressed his wish for her to come home safely.

“I hope we find her safe and sound,” he emphasized, “but we cannot ignore what’s in front of us.”

The day after Nancy was reported missing, the anchor of the Today show publicly shared how deeply her family is suffering.

Speaking for my family, I want to express our gratitude for all the kind thoughts, prayers, and messages we’ve received,” she shared in a statement to NBC’s morning show on February 2nd. “Our top priority right now is bringing Nancy home safely.”

She expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts in the investigation and asked anyone with relevant information to reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Once Savannah learned her mother, Nancy, had been reported missing, her colleagues on the Today show publicly expressed their support.

Jenna Bush Hager shared on the February 2nd episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle that she is personally close to Nancy and feels warmly towards her.

She continued, saying they were thinking of Savannah and her family and sending their prayers to them all.

Meanwhile, Sheinelle Jones emphasized the importance of community during this difficult time.

She felt the show truly highlighted the community at its finest when it asked viewers to reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s department with any information related to the case, even if it seemed insignificant.

She added, “So we’re sending our prayers but we’re also sending our collective action.”

Before concluding the segment, both hosts continued, “We love you, Savannah.”

And Sunday Today anchor Willie Geist also urged fans to keep an eye out for Nancy.

On February 2nd, he posted on Instagram asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of Nancy Guthrie, Savannah Guthrie’s mother, to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Arizona. He also included the relevant phone number, stating that she was missing.

Savannah’s former colleague, Hoda Kotb, responded to the surprising announcement by sharing a heartwarming picture of Savannah and Nancy together on the Today show set. In a brief Instagram post on February 2nd, Hoda simply included a red heart and praying hands emoji.

Police have marked Nancy’s home in Arizona as a crime scene, but they don’t think the public needs to be worried.

At a press conference on February 2nd, Pima County Sheriff Nanos stated he didn’t believe there was an immediate danger, but cautioned that the investigation was ongoing and much work remained.

Savannah hasn’t appeared on Today since February 1st, when her mother was reported missing. However, local officials have been checking in with her to ensure she’s okay.

The sheriff confirmed they had spoken with her. Her security team has been communicating with them all night, but they aren’t ruling anything out at this point.

On Feb. 2, Pima County police shared a series of updates on the timeline of Nancy’s disappearance.

Investigators now think the woman was likely taken from her home against her will, potentially while she was sleeping, according to a Pima County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson on February 2nd. Detectives are investigating the possibility that she was kidnapped.

After news broke that Nancy might have been taken from her home in Arizona while she was sleeping, Savannah made a heartfelt plea.

In a recent Instagram post on February 2nd, she shared her faith, writing, ‘We believe in the power of prayer, in people coming together with love and hope, and in the goodness of humanity. Most importantly, we believe in God.’

Savannah continued, thanking everyone for keeping her mother, Nancy, in their thoughts and prayers. She described Nancy as a woman of strong beliefs and a devoted person, and asked for continued prayers, believing they would provide comfort and strength right now.

She added, “we need you.”

To conclude her plea, Savannah shared a Bible verse from Isaiah.

She shared a verse from Isaiah, writing, “He will keep those with steadfast hearts, who trust in the Lord, in perfect peace.” She believed this message held true for everyone, now and always.

Savannah continued, “Bring her home.”

Pima County Sheriff Nanos stated that DNA evidence was discovered at Nancy’s home, which is now being treated as a crime scene.

Okay, so they actually took samples – samples! – and they’re hoping, praying even, that the DNA they get back is good enough to finally tell us what we’re dealing with. I saw it on Today, and honestly, just knowing they’re this close to figuring it out is…everything. I’m glued to the TV, waiting for any little detail!

Two days after Nancy went missing, Nanos explained what happened leading up to her disappearance at a press conference.

According to Nanos, the doorbell camera stopped working at 1:47 a.m., about four hours after she got back from a family visit, as she explained at a press conference on February 5th.

Okay, so the doorbell did catch someone, thank goodness! But then the rep told me – can you believe it? – that the video was just…deleted? Because Nancy doesn’t pay for the monthly service! It’s infuriating! But he did say they’re still trying to dig it up, so there’s still a tiny bit of hope. I just need to see who was there!

Okay, so get this – the sheriff said Nancy’s pacemaker app actually showed it disconnected from her phone at 2:28 AM! Can you believe it? Then, the family checked on her around 11:56 AM and she was gone. They immediately called 911 at 12:03 PM, straight to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. It’s just… so unsettling, knowing all the timings.

About ten minutes after that, he explained that when their patrol teams arrive at the scene, they immediately begin responding with both search-and-rescue and detective units.

On February 4th, Savannah, Camron, and Annie read letters they wrote to their mother and the people who might have taken her, begging for Nancy to come home safely.

In a video posted to Instagram, the family said they are doing everything possible and are willing to communicate. They emphasized the prevalence of manipulated media and stated they need irrefutable proof that their loved one is still alive and in the possession of those they are addressing.

My mom is the center of our world and everything to us,” she said. “Her health is very delicate, and she’s constantly in pain. She doesn’t have the medication she needs to manage it, and it’s essential for both her survival and to relieve her suffering.

The next day, Camron confirmed in a separate video that the family was still “waiting for contact.”

We’re asking whoever has our mother to please contact us. We haven’t received any direct communication, and we need to establish a way to communicate so we can resolve this situation.

During a press conference on February 5th, FBI Special Agent Heith Janke announced the arrest of Derrick Callella from California. Callella is accused of sending fake texts as part of an attempt to profit from the situation, which authorities described as a complete fraud. They are also investigating a detailed ransom letter shared with TMZ, treating it as a serious threat. Callella has not yet entered a plea and was released on a $20,000 bond.

However, he noted, the Guthrie family was “still waiting for communication.”

On February 7th, the day officials told Today they had searched Annie’s Arizona home as a routine part of the investigation, Savannah posted a new video on Instagram suggesting they had received what they’d asked for.

Speaking while holding hands with Camron and Annie, she said they understood the message and pleaded for their mother’s return, explaining it was the only way they could find peace and celebrate with her.

And if her intentions weren’t clear, Savannah added, “This is very valuable to us and we will pay.”

As a lifestyle expert, I’m always keeping an eye on what’s happening around us, and I wanted to share an update: authorities recently released photos of someone they’re looking into as part of an investigation – those photos were made public on February 10th. It’s a significant step in the case, and hopefully, someone will recognize them!

Footage from a security camera on Nancy’s property shows a person wearing a ski mask and carrying a backpack walking toward her home. The individual then appears to punch the camera, damaging it. Police had previously noted the camera was broken when they responded to a call at the house.

For the past eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been collaborating with private companies to retrieve any lost, damaged, or inaccessible photos and videos from Nancy Guthrie’s home. This effort was complicated by the removal of recording equipment. The recovered video was found as remaining data within those systems, according to a statement provided to TopMob News.

“Working with our partners,” the note continued, “law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”

Two days after the FBI shared video of the person who went near Nancy’s house, investigators provided a description of the suspect.

According to the FBI’s Phoenix office, the suspect is a man around 5’9” to 5’10” tall with an average build. He was seen in a video wearing a black ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack that holds about 25 liters.

The FBI is now offering a $100,000 reward – up from $50,000 – for information that helps find Nancy Guthrie or leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.

After Savannah Guthrie’s mother had been missing for over two weeks, Pima County Sheriff Nanos released a statement to explain who might be connected to the 84-year-old’s disappearance.

In a statement on February 16th, authorities confirmed that the entire Guthrie family – including all siblings and their spouses – have been ruled out as suspects in this case. They noted the family has been fully cooperative and are themselves considered victims.
