As a huge sci-fi fan, I have to say this movie blew me away! It’s been all over Netflix, and for good reason – it’s a super popular, action-packed alien thriller that really reminded me of Predator. The best part? They’re already making a sequel! I know I, along with a lot of other people, watched the first one over and over, and now we’re getting even more of Alan Ritchson kicking alien butt – Netflix is seriously delivering!
The movie War Machine quickly became a hit on Netflix, climbing to the top of the most-watched list almost immediately after its release. The story follows a soldier called 81 (played by Ritchson) who is determined to keep a promise to his late brother by joining the highly skilled 75th Army Ranger Regiment. Once he arrives, things appear normal until an accidental explosion puts the soldiers on a dangerous path towards a mysterious machine that’s on a rampage.
Could a War Machine Sequel Hope to Match the Hype of the First Film?
Whether or not a sequel was a good idea is debatable. Fans are divided – some are happy to see another film, while others feel Netflix is simply capitalizing on the first movie’s popularity. One viewer shared on X, “I really enjoyed the first one – it was a fun action movie, and I wasn’t looking for realism.” However, others were critical, with one person stating that a sequel felt unnecessary, calling the original a forgettable film that Netflix is reviving solely based on its view count.
The new War Machine sequel illustrates a frustrating pattern at Netflix: shows that are critically acclaimed but don’t attract a massive audience are likely to be canceled, while sequels are greenlit for anything that gets enough views, regardless of how poorly received it is.
